As a result, student athletes from across the Commonwealth are using the extra year to take another shot at athletic scholarships. Here’s a look at some players who have taken advantage of the bonus year. If I missed a player, it’s likely because I wasn’t aware they had reclassed.
2023 to 2024:
South Laurel’s Clara Collins made the decision to go to 2024 and will hope to have a couple of injury free seasons ahead. Clara averaged 7 points per contest last season while playing in 14 out of 31 games. She’s had a good summer and should ride some momentum into the season.
Corbin’s Kallie Housley Kallie Housley 5'6" | SG Corbin | 2024 State KY and Bailey Stewart Bailey Stewart 5'8" | SF Corbin | 2024 State KY will hope to help the Redhounds to a 13th region title. Housley was the leading scorer last season at 17 points per game while Stewart kicked in just over 9 points per game. They should be part of a good young core for Corbin this season.
2024 to 2025:
Hayden Barrier Hayden Barrier 5'6" | SG Montgomery County | 2024 State KY of Montgomery County made the move to 2025 despite being a top 10 player with multiple D1 offers as a 2024. Hayden was a double figure scorer last season and should see an uptick in her shooting efficiency this season as she’ll have a better supporting cast around her on a very young MoCo team.
Woodford County’s Niah Rhodes Niah Rhodes 5'7" | CG Frederick Douglass | 2025 State KY averaged 13 points per game last season while making 32% of her three point attempts. Woodford is going to be very young this season and Niah will be counted on to help carry the scoring load and be an on court leader.
