Opponents should think twice before venturing into the paint against these players. The 2020 season saw two of the better shot blockers graduate in [player_tooltip player_id="91549" first="Taliyah" last="Wyche"] and [player_tooltip player_id="145092" first="Tatyana" last="Wyche"]. Both current Florida Gators averaged over 3 blocks per game for Plantation American Heritage.
Here are picks for the 2021 season...
[player_tooltip player_id="91563" first="Mya" last="Kone"] - Pompano Blanche Ely
2021 [player_tooltip player_id="91563" first="Mya" last="Kone"] was 15th in the state after she averaged 3.1 rejections per game. Kone can be a menace around the paint using her 6-foot-2 frame. The power forward can move and hold her position on the frontline. Her work when not recording an official rejection is probably sky high. Kone has so much length and athleticism to affect a play. She's probably the favorite to finish at the top in this category.
Ashley Hendricks - Berean Christian
Over in West Palm Beach, 2024 Ashley Hendricks put up an impressive 2.4 rejections per game. She is an all-around great defender for the Lady Bulldogs. While showing great timing, her quick hands also resulted in 3.8 steals per game. Hendricks is very reliable at this point. She should only grow her game from here. Specifically, I am looking for her offensive game to improve.
Genesis Toledano - Schoolhouse Prep
2022 Genesis Toledano is a solid rim protector for the Wolfpack. The 6-foot-2 power forward/center averaged 2.3 blocks per game while collecting seven rebounds per contest. Against a strong Miami Norland team, Toledano had 5 rejections and nine rebounds. That is saying something against one of the better teams in the area. While I didn’t see a ton of offensive production, she gets it done on the defensive side.
Cassidy Stouffer - Westminster Christian
2022 Cassidy Stouffer rejected 1.8 blocks per game. Moreover, she recorded three or more in four contests. Against LaSalle, Stouffer swatted away eight attempts. In that same game, she had a triple-double of 13 points, 11 assists and ten rebounds. While that might have been an outlier, she did contribute in multiple areas throughout the season.
[player_tooltip player_id="151282" first="Alancia" last="Ramsey"] (St. Thomas Aquinas), [player_tooltip player_id="217667" first="Kayla" last="Nelms"] (Miami Country Day), and Ka’Zahria Johnson (Miami Norland)
This trio of prospects are going to be near the top in multiple categories. For this purpose, each player averaged about 2 blocks per game. They all possess tremendous length (6+) and athleticism over their opponents. Furthermore, they make their teammates better due to their talent. All three will receive all honors from multiple publications.
