There are some great matchups in week 3. Many teams are heading out to Las Vegas for the Tarkanian Classic or to Arizona for the Nike TOC. Here are some great in-state matchups for this week!
<strong>Mullen (4-0) vs. Regis (4-1) Monday December 13th</strong>
Two powerhouses matchup on Monday night for what should be a great game. The Mustangs come into this game undefeated with double digit wins in every game so far this season. [player_tooltip player_id="95172" first="Gracie" last="Gallegos"] (22 ppg, 4.5 rpg) is off to a hot start and leads her team in scoring. Mullen relentless posts up [player_tooltip player_id="117681" first="Kilah" last="Freelon"] (15 ppg, 7.3 rpg) and she finishes at a high rate around the basket. Their length as a team may end up being the difference in the game. [player_tooltip player_id="95170" first="Imani" last="Perez"] (6.3 ppg, 8.8 rpg), [player_tooltip player_id="216722" first="Allison" last="Schwertner"] (5 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and [player_tooltip player_id="361573" first="Tatum" last="Jones"] play heavy minutes in the Mustang rotation. They are all lengthy defenders who can score in the post. It will be a tough inside matchup for Regis.
The Raiders are off to a great start with a quality win over Doherty to start the season and some double digit wins over good opponents. Their only loss came to Ralston Valley last week. [player_tooltip player_id="216730" first="Coryn" last="Watts"] (14.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg) has been a breakout player for Regis and leads them in scoring. The Raiders have four double-digit scorers including Watts, [player_tooltip player_id="95216" first="Savitri" last="Jackson"] (12.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg), [player_tooltip player_id="216647" first="Hannah" last="Belibi"] (12.2 ppg, 8 rpg), and Sophia Meyer (10 ppg, 4.5 rpg). Regis is shooting the ball a lot from deep averaging 27 three-point attempts per game. They will have to continue to shoot the ball well to win this matchup.
<strong>Fort Collins (4-1) vs. Windsor (5-0) Tuesday December 14th</strong>
The Lambkins are off to a great start with quality wins over Douglas County and Pueblo West. Their only loss came in a close game with George Washington. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="329411" first="Avery" last="Alcaraz"] leads them in scoring at 13.4 ppg. She is shooting 34% from 3 while also averaging 3.4 rpg and 1.8 spg. Fort Collin's has a solid Senior class with [player_tooltip player_id="117726" first="Emily" last="Johnson"] (9.4 ppg, 8 rpg), [player_tooltip player_id="316810" first="Shayne" last="Young"] (8.8 ppg, 4.2 apg), and [player_tooltip player_id="316802" first="Laura" last="Davis"] (6.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg) all contributing. They will look to knock off one of the state's best teams in Windsor.
The Wizards come into this game having beaten 5A powerhouse, Fossil Ridge, twice this season already. Their other 3 games have all been blowouts by 35+ points. They are a deep team with balanced scoring. Multiple players can reach double-digit points on any given night. [player_tooltip player_id="207078" first="Olivia" last="Reed"] (12.2 ppg, 9.8 rpg) leads them in scoring and rebounding. She is a force in the paint. Teammates [player_tooltip player_id="145408" first="Mykaela" last="Moore"] (10.6 ppg, 3.6 spg) and Samantha Darnell (10 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.6 apg) are having strong starts as well. This is poised to be a great game.
<strong>Monarch (7-0) vs. Lakewood (6-0) Tuesday December 14th</strong>
Both teams come into this game undefeated. Monarch is coming off a championship in the Jeffco Jungle Jam. They have quality wins over Thunderridge, D'Evelyn, and Littleton. Junior [player_tooltip player_id="222378" first="Natalie" last="Guanella"] (18.6 ppg, 3.3 spg, 2.6 spg) is a walking bucket. She is also shooting 43% from three. She is a tough defensive player as well. [player_tooltip player_id="318873" first="Amelia" last="Rosin"] is averaging a double-double at 12 ppg and 10.7 rpg. Hayley Luther (9.7 ppg) and [player_tooltip player_id="318878" first="Arezo" last="Safi"] (9.1 ppg) are both making major contributions as well.
Lakewood is a great defensive team who is holding their opponents to 38.5 ppg. They have had multiple people lead them in scoring in each game. Senior Anna Salmore leads the team in points (14.7 ppg) and rebounding (12.8 rpg). [player_tooltip player_id="117708" first="Logan" last="Watson"] (11 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.2 apg) does a great job in running the Tiger's offense. She is also shooting 45% from 3. They have also been getting some big contributions from Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="361567" first="DJ" last="Parrish"] (10.5 ppg). She had a big 16 point performance over Denver South in her first Varsity game. This is poised to be a big test for both teams.
<strong>Valor (3-1) vs. Columbine (4-0) Wednesday December 15th</strong>
Two Jeffco teams meet up this week in a non-conference matchup that features some of the state's best players. Valor is coming off a great showing in the She's Got Game Classic and had a great win over Highlands Ranch last week. [player_tooltip player_id="95168" first="Raegan" last="Beers"] looks fantastic coming off her injury last season and is averaging 19 ppg and 17.3 rebounds. She is one of the most disruptive players in the state on both ends of the floor. [player_tooltip player_id="210292" first="Macey" last="Huard"] (18.3 ppg) is shooting 38% from 3 and can score from all over the floor. Freshman Quinn Van Sickle (12.5 ppg, 3 rpg) has been one of the state's top freshman so far this season. She looks poised and has been a great scoring option for the Eagles.
Columbine is coming off a championship in the Fairview tournament. They have quality wins over Ralston Valley and Mountain Vista. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="216675" first="Elizabeth" last="Gentry"] is playing great averaging 15 ppg and 6.5 rpg. She seems to get better and better after every game. Her touch around the basket has been impressive this season. Senior [player_tooltip player_id="117697" first="Jessica" last="Bollwahn"] (11.5 ppg, 6 rpg, 4 spg) can post up on smaller players or score on the wing against anybody. [player_tooltip player_id="495850" first="Emily" last="Allison"] has started her Sophomore year averaging 6.5 ppg and 6 rpg. Columbine is one of the few teams in Jeffco that has multiple people they can throw at Raegan. Gentry will most likely be tasked with guarding her with Reghan Lipp being another option to guard her as well. This will be a great test for the Rebels as they see how they stack up against the number one team in the state.
