The FHSAA State Tournament has taken place from Wednesday the 23rd until Saturday the 26th in Lakeland at the RP Funding Center. In Game One, Cardinal Mooney took down King’s Academy by a score of 50-42 by getting out early and never letting up. Game Two was a dominant performance by Westminster over Florida State from the tip with a final score of 69-52. The State Championship was a very competitive game that Westminster took as your 3A State Champs by a score of 44-41! Here were the top players who showed out in Class 3A on the big stage:
[player_tooltip player_id="151173" first="Claire" last="Erickson"] | Westminster Academy - MVP
Claire does a really good job of reading the floor and making the right play with some fantastic passes ahead on the break. Her shooting was deadly in the second quarter with four 3’s against FSUHS. She put up 22 points in that game by going 4 for 5 from long range. In the Championship win, she ended with 8 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Her leadership, ball handling, and ability to control the pace for her team all year and all career can’t be put into words. What a way to end her career with a title!
[player_tooltip player_id="243895" first="Lena" last="Girardi"] | Westminster Academy
Florida State did not have an answer for Lena in their game as she had a huge double double with 27 points and 14 rebounds. She was getting to the hoop at-will and did a great job of drawing contact and finishing. She had 8 points and 4 rebounds in the Championship, but became the biggest cheerleader on the bench when she fouled out with 2:45 left in the game. Lena is so strong and has great length/size as the #2 ranked player in the 2025 class.
[player_tooltip player_id="91658" first="Olivia" last="Davis"] | Cardinal Mooney
Liv hit some deep treys in game one from WNBA range and beyond. Her energy is contagious and really gets the crowd and her team going. She finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds in that win over King’s. Cardinal Mooney couldn’t find their shot in the Championship, but she had 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in the tough loss. I have a feeling we will be seeing the Cougars again.
[player_tooltip player_id="243900" first="Kali" last="Barrett"] | Cardinal Mooney
Kali was huge in their semifinal win as the game’s leading scorer with 19 points and 6 boards. She showed why she’s ranked #1 in our 2025 class. Her mid-range game and strength to finish at the rim as a Freshman is really impressive. In the Championship, she had some huge offensive boards late that gave her team a chance. Kali had 8 points and 9 rebounds in the loss, but she will be hungry for more next school year.
[player_tooltip player_id="91556" first="Tonie" last="Morgan"] | FSU High
Tonie was really the only player for the Seminoles who made a significant impact. The Georgia Tech commit finished the last game of her HS career with 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Her ability to elevate and finish at the rim is arguably the best in the state. She can step back and hit it from deep, but she’s deadly when she’s driving to the hoop as she can pull up or drive right past you. Tonie will do big things at the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="243896" first="Jade" last="Jones"] | King’s Academy
Jade is a top ten 2025 in the state and she showed it by keeping her team in the game on Wednesday. She finished with 12 points, 4 boards, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Her pull-up and mid-range game was on display in Lakeland as well as her strength as only a Freshman. Keep an eye on Jade as she already has a strong frame and good basketball IQ.
Special Mention:
[player_tooltip player_id="243902" first="Maddie" last="Wallhoff"] (Westminster) had 15 big points in the State Championship on four 3’s.
Taelyn Carey (Westminster) had 10 points/9 boards in the State Championship after pulling down 11 rebounds in the semifinal win.
[player_tooltip player_id="91637" first="Jordyn" last="Byrd"] (Cardinal Mooney) finished with a double double of 12 points/13 rebounds in the State Championship after pulling down 10 boards in the semifinal win.
