Guards Star In Regional Semis

The regional semifinals were played last night and high level guard play was the story of the day. Let’s look at some of the guards in Michigan that had stellar semifinal performaces. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="253597" first="Ashley" last="Bower"] (2022, SG, Portland)</strong> Portland continued their title defense with a solid 58-34 win over Marshall. She’s such a consistent shooter and scorer that seems to never have a game where she really struggles. Last night Bower had a game high 20 points. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="194461" first="Lexie" last="Bowers"] (2023, PG, Kent City)</strong> Kent City advanced to the Regional Championship with a 51-31 win against West Michigan Christian. Bowers led the way with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. The premier lead guard can shoot the lights out, but continues to show that there’s much more to her game. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="190706" first="Mary" last="Copple"] (2023, PG, Brighton)</strong> Brighton advanced to the regional finals with a 43-27 win against a tough Ann Arbor Pioneer squad. Copple once again controlled the game from the perimeter offensively. She finished with 20 points, grabbed 3 boards, and dished out an assist. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147747" first="Brooke" last="Daniels"] (2022, PG, L’Anse Creuse North)</strong> L’Anse Creuse North defeated Utica by a final score of 54-31. Daniels was electrifying as usual in the game. She scored 25 points, grabbed 10 boards, and had 8 steals. Daniels was in complete control of this game from the tip. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="244297" first="Jaidyn" last="Elam"] (Detroit Country Day</strong> Detroit Country Day was terrific in the semis, defeating Livonia Clarenceville by a score of 72-27. Elam was a spark plug in the game finishing with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147716" first="Abbey" last="Kimball"] (2022, PG, Grand Rapids West Catholic)</strong> Stars often rule the day in tough contests like last nights 55-43 win against Grand Rapids Christian. In this game Kimball, a star, definitely ruled the day. She finished with a game high 28 points. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="186364" first="Alexandra" last="Kolnitys"] (2022, PG, Midland Dow)</strong> Midland Dow extended their outstanding season with a 64-32 win against Alpena. Kolnitys finished the game with 22 points on 60% shooting from the field. She has the ability to take the Dow the distance with her stellar play at the point. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="244298" first="Mia" last="McLaughlin"] (2024, PG, Frankenmuth)</strong> Frankenmuth advanced with a 55-37 victory over Ovid-Elsie. McLaughlin finished the contest with 18 points. She’s one of the most improved overall players statewide and flaunts an impressive all around game. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147714" first="Mya" last="Petticord"] (2022, PG, Arbor Prep)</strong> Arbor Prep was terrific in their regional semifinal victory. They defeated Blissfield by a score of 71-36. Petticord, a highly touted prospect on a national scale led the way with 31 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. <strong>Rachel Resio (2023, PG, Swan Valley)</strong> Resio has ahad a breakout season and last night was no different than what we’ve seen all season from this star guard. In an impressive win over Belding, she finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals. <strong>Ava Schultz (2022, CG, Gaylord St. Mary)</strong> Gaylord St. Mary has had a tremendous season and their star guard made sure that it continued with a 58-31 victory over Lake Leelanau St. Mary. Schultz finished with a game high 19 points. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147720" first="Jaci" last="Tubergen"] (2022, SG, Hudsonville)</strong> Tubergen was the pace setter in a hard fought 62-55 win against a very good Byron Center team. Tubergen finished with a team high 19 points. She will be critical in Hudsonville’s title defense. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="147713" first="Ruby" last="Whitehorn"] (2022, PG, Detroit Edison)</strong> Detroit Edison played lights out against one of the top teams in the state in Westfield Prep. Whitehorn was just flat out special. She scorched the nets for 35 points against one of the toughest defensive teams in Michigan. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="260503" first="Megan" last="Zeitz"] (2024, CG, Dansville)</strong> Zeitz was solid in a 54-42 victory against Leslie. She scored 19 points and was a critical threat from the perimeter all game long.
