High school playoff season is beginning to look a lot like NCAA’s March Madness tournament. In their third matchup of the 2021-2022 season, the Apex-Friendship Patriots took home a 50-33 victory over the Green Level Gators to advance them to the East 4A Regionals against Millbrook High School. Although Green Level fall short, they continued to fight until the end. Here’s a look at the 5 players that had the biggest impact on the overall game. [player_tooltip player_id="285949" first="Jasmine" last="Nivar"] 5’9 G 2025 Apex-Friendship Nivar is becoming a popular name in women’s high school basketball, and Jasmine is proving to everyone why the name will continue on after her sister graduates. As a starting Freshman, she is putting up impressive numbers of her own. She began the game by hitting 2 three-pointers in the first quarter and went on to be the 3rd leading scorer for the Patriots ending with a total of 11 points. Jasmine knocked down crucial free throws in the second half and was 4 rebounds shy of a double-double. The calmness in Jasmines’ game helped to keep the tempo of the game right where her team needed it. And her block and steal also went on as a great contribution to the team’s success. [player_tooltip player_id="385172" first="Victoria" last="Sagne"] 5’11 G 2023 Apex-Friendship Tuesday’s night game was a break-out performance for the junior. Shooting 100% from the three-point line, Victoria’s 21 points crowned her the leading scorer of the evening. Her versatile style of play makes her a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the court. the guard-forward also lead the game in steals, snatching 4 out of her 5 before the first half, two in back-to-back possessions. Sagne’s 5’11 height allows her to play big when guarded by a smaller defender. She grabbed 5 rebounds and finished with 2 assists in the Patriots’ victory. Audrey Ericksen 6’0 F 2023 Green Level If a rebounder is what you need, Audrey is your girl. She stands 6’0 and her athletic ability allows her to jump with the tallest and run alongside the fastest. She sees the court well, finishing the match with 2 assists. Ericksen led the game in rebounds. Her 10 boards went on to make her the only player of the game to finish with a double-double. She and dynamic duo teammate [player_tooltip player_id="384882" first="Madison" last="Nereu"] splashed two big 3’s in the first quarter leaving their team only to trail by 3 at the start of the second quarter. Audrey was the Gator’s leading scorer totaling 12 points. With another year to go, Ericksen is definitely a player to watch in the upcoming season. [player_tooltip player_id="384882" first="Madison" last="Nereu"] 5’10 F 2022 Green Level As a senior on the team, Madison gave her last high school game all she had. Although she struggled to score, she managed to finish with 9 of the Gator’s 33 points. Her biggest contributions came from her intense and aggressive minutes on the court, alongside her 8 rebounds throughout the course of the game. Madison also runs the floor in transition and is great with looking for an open teammate. She finished with 2 assists and is overall a great addition to any team that she plays for. At 5’10 she can get to the basket just as well as she can knock down an open shot anywhere on the floor. [player_tooltip player_id="116890" first="Indya" last="Nivar"] 5’9 G 2022 Apex-Friendship [caption id="attachment_117272" align="alignleft" width="150"] [player_tooltip player_id="116890" first="Indya" last="Nivar"] goes in for a layup during a game in the 2019-20 season. (Photo: Prep Hoops)[/caption]Stanford signee put on a solid 4th round performance in Tuesday night’s matchup. While only hitting 1 three-pointer, Indya continued to attack the basket and finished with 16 total points, 12 coming in the first half. Along with her younger sister Jasmine, Nivar’s 7 rebounds made her just a few boards away from a double-double. Indya ran the floor well in transition and played great pressure defense snagging away a steal and 2 blocks. As a true leader on the court, she continues to get her teammates involved offensively by seeing the floor when she’s running the point guard position. Looking ahead to the East Regional game against #2 seed Millbrook, Nivar is faced with a more difficult task taking on lady Wildcat [player_tooltip player_id="116905" first="Reychel" last="Douglas"].
