This was a game for the ages as Brownsboro defeated Hardin Jefferson 50-49 yet what I really enjoyed was the role players stepping up, on center stage in this platform. Yeah, I expected the stars to go off but many times it’s not the stars that make that extra difference so watching Audie Rogers-5’8 G come off the bench and the junior immediately nailed a pressure 3 for Hardin Jefferson was huge, for me because it changed the momentum yet on the flip sophomore Khayla Garrett 5’10 G/F had 5 rebounds and 3 huge assists off the bench as well as tough pressure defense for Brownsboro and helped play a huge part in their victory, here are the Top 5 Performers
2022
[player_tooltip player_id="65906" first="Ashlon" last="Jackson"] (Hardin Jefferson)
Jackson scored 17 points in her last high school game and she ended this part of her chapter like she started when I saw her that initial time in the 3rd or 4th grade, with poise as well as being a consummate team player. She's heading to Duke as well as the WNBA in a few years yet the #1 player in Texas, she made the All-State Tournament team yet again, will be playing in the McDonald's All American game, the lone representative from Texas
Mekhayia Moore-5’8 G (Brownsboro)
Moore was named All-State MVP of the tournament and what I enjoyed about her game was her ability to find ways to put the ball in the basket. She created her shot under pressure to attack and finish strongly but she also showed she could score after attacking with the short jumper, yet the jumper kept extending as the mid-to long-range was also shown, She closed out her career with a double-double, 19/14
Paris Miller-5’11 G (Brownsboro)
Miller just stayed in a zone and dropped 20 points as she set the defender up with ease but those points included 4'6 from BTA. Her release is quick and fluid and she understands how and when to get her shot off, didn't force anything, and applied pressure defensively which helped force turnovers
2024
[player_tooltip player_id="166646" first="Kendall" last="Sneed"] (Hardin Jefferson)
Sneed opened up the game with 5 steals, not sure if that's a record yet watching her progression on the court over the years has been great. Yeah, I dropped the #D1Lock on her before high school, she reminded me of my daughter's game in so many ways at the time yet she has expanded what she brings to the table and her 17 points including an off-balance 3 at the buzzer closed the game out at 50-49. They came up a little short yet "they ain't done"
Khyra Garrett -5’10 F/C (Brownsboro)
Garrett is long and athletic and just her mere presence on the court helped secure the championship. She only scored 7 points this game yet they were huge at times, so were her rebounds but her defense, on the ball, was just smothering at times yet she also did what I love and that plays the passing lane, she also had 3 steals
