The 2023 Hoop State Class had a solid showing this past weekend at the LBI Opening in Greenville, SC. Who were some of these ladies that caught our attention here at Prep Girls Hoops? [player_tooltip player_id="297180" first="Betsey" last="Burnett"] - Charlotte Dream Elite 17U - Garinger HS (Charlotte) Betsey really plays the game with a good bit of confidence on the floor. She was able to drop some floaters on the way to cup with her smooth style of play. Betsey got the ball into the gaps at times and really shared the ball well with her teammates. She always seemed under control on the floor with her play. She helped her team to a 4-0 weekend at the LBI Opening. Aliyah Corpening - Charlotte Dream Elite 17U - Asheville Christian Corpening shared backcourt honors with Burnett. Aliyah was able to knockdown shots from all 3 levels on the floor today. Corpening started the day off from downtown behind the arc and then dropped a few mid-range jumpers. She always looked to have her feet set and shot ready to receive the ball. [player_tooltip player_id="412298" first="Caroline" last="Thiel"] - Carolina Flames 17U Nike - Rocky Mount HS Thiel is an ideal Stock Riser in the future for sure. Caroline had a breakout season out in Eastern North Carolina. She averaged 18.2 ppg while running her career total to 1,182 points heading into her senior season. Caroline is extremely active and athletic all over the floor. Thiel is mobile enough to play inside-out on the floor and knockdown jumpers from all over at times. Caroline has plenty of improving still to do and whatever program lands her services down the road will be getting a diamond in the rough. [player_tooltip player_id="201996" first="Natalie" last="Evington"] - Carolina Flames 17U Nike - Purnell Swett (Pembroke) Evington is a SHOOTER with good range. Natalie averaged 15.8 ppg while eclipsing over 180 career three pointers for the Lady Rams this season. Natalie is always around the ball to make a play while finishing drives at times on contact to the rack. Evington is a catch-shoot player with good shot selection. [player_tooltip player_id="202002" first="Evangelia" last="Paulk"] - Carolina Flames TC - Harrell - Asheville Christian Paulk was able to pop off screens for open looks today from the perimeter. Evangelia has good size from the guard position and the ability to knockdown shots behind the 3-point line. She averaged 12.7 ppg and 5.4 rebounds this past season at Asheville Christian. [player_tooltip player_id="116908" first="Sydney" last="Barker"] - CP3 Flames EYBL Morris - Jordan HS (Durham) (pictured on front) Barker is a point guard with a great feel and understanding of the game. Sydney looks to direct traffic and remains a vocal leader at all times when on the floor. Barker is a pass first point guard who rarely turns the ball over and keeps the ball on a string at times. [player_tooltip player_id="217759" first="Darrionna" last="Howard"] - CP3 Flames EYBL Morris - Clayton HS Howard just physically overpowers players were her HIGH MOTOR. Darriona plays the game extremely active and never takes a play-off while on the floor. She was able to finish around the cup while rebounding the ball on both ends of the floor. Darriona filled the lane in transition with ease at times with her ability to run the floor. [player_tooltip player_id="158300" first="Zoey" last="Ward"] - CP3 Flames EYBL Morris - Concord Academy Ward was perfect from downtown today connecting on 5-5 from behind the 3-point line. Zoey a catch-shoot combo guard really understands on how to take a quality shot while on the floor. She never looked to force anything and really played well within the team concept. Zoey and her teammates will for sure make some noise this spring and summer on the EYBL Circuit. [player_tooltip player_id="297188" first="Macy" last="Wike"] - Carolina Flames TC - Harrell - Smoky Mountain HS (Sylva) Macy really brought some toughness to the floor for her team. She was able to play multiple positions on the floor at times today while posting up smaller defenders. Wike plays the game with a fearless mindset at times. Macy rebounded the ball well from her positions especially on the offensive glass.
