On Wednesday, I took a trip to the new Dr. Kiran C. Patel High School to take a look at Team Carn and Team Vedo for The Compound Basketball. Thank you to Daleisha Carn for the invite! Here were some players in the 2024/25 classes who stood out during practice: [player_tooltip player_id="346837" first="Asya" last="Lara Barnes"] | 6’0 G/F | 2025 Lara has the highest ceiling of all the players I saw for The Compound. She’s a long, smooth lefty that score it all 3 levels. She’s already got the size to play at the next level and some of the moves including a nice step-back in her bag. I saw her in the stands at GEICO Nationals, so I know she is a student of the game watching hoops at all levels. [player_tooltip player_id="428045" first="Savannah" last="Ferguson"] | 5’10 G/F | 2025 Savannah was another 2025 who looked like she belonged with the older players. She’s a sniper from deep with good rotation on her shot. I liked how hard she played during practice and her ability to read the passing lanes to generate some steals. [player_tooltip player_id="426334" first="Treniti" last="Fluker"] | 5’5 G | 2024 Treniti showed a lot of speed and athleticism that make life really difficult for the offense. She also has quick, active hands that make it even more tough. When she got downhill, she made some crafty finishes at the rim as one of the best slashers I saw. Azjannie Culberth | 5’8 G | 2024 Azjannie’s game is still pretty raw, but she has the skills/build/athleticism to turn into a really good player. She has night length and disrupts the defense with it. This summer could be a big one for her to get her name out there. [player_tooltip player_id="248428" first="Kalese" last="Salter"] | 5’2 PG | 2025 Kalese reminded me of former and current Plant PG’s named Nyla and Tanner with her quick first step, athleticism, and build. She might have a ways to go to get to their level, but she played very physical and has a high motor. She’s a shifty PG that has some serious potential. [player_tooltip player_id="428046" first="Izellah" last="Kendrick"] | 6’2 F/C | 2025 I did not realize Izellah was a Freshman until this week. She has made a lot of improvement since the beginning of the season as a true post that can bully people in the paint. If she continues to develop her footwork, shooting, and defense then she will be a really nice post player in the Tampa Area.
