There will be several stories coming from a group of writers covering the event over the next few days.
Today I will look at a mixture of the two ages, while tomorrow, I will focus on just the 17s I see on Sunday.
Lilly Duckman, 5-6 2022, Full Package 3 2023
Was really impressed how well she played in all aspects of the game. What stood out the most was her court vision and her ability to pass through traffic. She does have good court awareness, one thing I would love to see her accelerate a bit more to the next gear, but she is talented. Good on-ball defender, she also runs the floor and finishes well.
Caitlyn Tolentino, 5-8 2023, M14 Hoops 2023 BS Select
Hard working guard with a knack of finishing at the rim. Good passer, can make the no-look pass look easy. Impressive way of scanning the floor well, finding the open player. She plays tough and is a good floor leader with effective handles. (feature photo above)
Makiya West, 5-11 2023, Kentucky Ice 2023 Select
Plays hard on both ends of the floor, Makiya did her job both scoring and rebounding, finishing with a double-double in the game I saw. She is a strong, solid finisher with good footwork in the paint. Good catch-and-shoot player around the rim, difficult to defend. She moves well without the ball and handles the paint well. She is strong at the rim and runs the floor well.
Vivienne Macheck, 5-11 2023, Dayton Metro 2023 Welch
The Napoleon High School player really did some good things and after speaking with her coach, it isn’t hard to find out why she is so important to her team. She moves really well and on the defensive end, she can guard a point guard with her size. Expect a good spring head for the Ohio baller.
Ka’nyriah Ridley, 5-5 2026, Indiana Red Storm
Playing in the younger age group, this current eighth grader showcased some very good skills .She finishes well at the rim and is good in transition, not afraid of mixing it up with more experienced players. She can play at a high tempo, sees the floor well and I love her court awareness. Active hands and anticipates the action.
