The Detroit Edison run of Miss Basketball award winners continued this year as [player_tooltip player_id="147713" first="Ruby" last="Whitehorn"] took home the honors. It’s way too early for predictions for next year, but let’s be honest, it’s never really TOO early. Here’s some players that I think will be in contention as well as my prediction for Miss Basketball in 2023.

CONTENDERS

[player_tooltip player_id="190743" first="Dakota" last="Alston"] (PG, Detroit Edison)
Can DEPSA continue their run of Miss Basketball winners? Alston most certainly has a chance.
[player_tooltip player_id="357376" first="Zoie" last="Bamm"] (PF, Columbia Central)
In my opinion, Bamm is primed for a huge senior season. If she does, she’ll be in the discussion.
[player_tooltip player_id="189288" first="Kennedy" last="Blair"] (PG, Dearborn Divine Child)
Blair’s numbers this season simply can’t be ignored. She was lights out all season.
[player_tooltip player_id="188582" first="Macy" last="Brown"] (PG, East Grand Rapids)
Brown is just so talented that she has to be in the equation. A big time prospect at the next level has to be on the list.
[player_tooltip player_id="194461" first="Lexie" last="Bowers"] (PG, Kent City)
Bowers is one of the best shooters in the state and her team can almost be counted on to make a deep run in the playoffs.
[player_tooltip player_id="189293" first="Faith" last="Carson"] (C, Buchanan)
Carson is one of the most talented post players in this part of the country if you ask me. The future Buckeye could play herself into a trophy at the end of the year.
[player_tooltip player_id="190706" first="Mary" last="Copple"] (PG, Brighton)
Did you see her play in the state playoffs? If she comes out like that next season, she may have a seat at the table with the finalists.
[player_tooltip player_id="188585" first="Cadence" last="Dykstra"] (PG, West Catholic)
Dykstra is an elite guard with a selfless game. Her bid for Miss Basketball has merit in her elite talent alone.
[player_tooltip player_id="188580" first="Macy" last="Fegan"] (SG, Standish-Sterling)
Fegan will in all likelihood put up HUGE numbers once again next season. She might be the top scoring guard in the state.
[player_tooltip player_id="188581" first="Sydney" last="Hendrix"] (F, West Bloomfield)
I think Hendrix has a great shot at the 2023 Miss Basketball award. She’ll be the senior leader and a star on the favorite to win back to back Division 1 state titles.
[player_tooltip player_id="230784" first="Elyssa" last="Kincaid"] (F, Riverview)
Kincaid put up video game like numbers this season. You can’t look past a player that could average close to a triple-double, especially if she has her team near the top of the state again.
[player_tooltip player_id="188564" first="Maddie" last="Petroelje"] (G/F, Hudsonville)
Hudsonville graduates some elite talent which will provide some opportunities for Petroelje to stand out even more. Voters that like grit and toughness will lean her way.
[player_tooltip player_id="188583" first="Sarah" last="Rambus"] (PF, Flushing)
Rambus is an electric forward that can finish in transition and protect the rim on defense. With her talent and the numbers that she can put up, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she was a finalist.
[player_tooltip player_id="189300" first="Shamya" last="Reid"] (PG, Westfield Prep)
Reid has a very real shot. She’s the leader of a Westfield Prep team that I think could be VERY good. Her game is electric on both ends and will certainly catch the eye of many voters.
[player_tooltip player_id="189278" first="Janae" last="Tyler"] (C, Holt)
Tyler ended last season on a tear. If she dominates the interior like she did last season, she will d serve at least a look.

MISS BASKETBALL

[player_tooltip player_id="189279" first="Lexi" last="Boyke"] (PF, Frankenmuth)
Sometimes stories play out in special ways and I’m predicting this one to do just that. Frankenmuth made a deep run in the playoffs this season, but had to do it without Boyke, their star power forward who was out with an injury. When she returns next season, I feel like she can be the ring leader on another top notch Frankenmuth team. Don’t forget exactly how talented the Central Michigan commit truly is. Boyke is a 4 that can score at all 3 levels as her perimeter game was taking off pre injury. Boyke had also become an elite post defender that really grinded on that end of the floor. As of right now, I’m predicting a story book comeback and senior season for Boyke. The story ends with a Miss Basketball award.
