Gamechangers of the Legacy Region Finals

As teams played for the Legacy Region title, plenty of players did little things to help their team compete. I want to highlight some kids who may fly a little under the radar for different reasons.

Maya Edmond Maya Edmond 6'0" | PF Brookfield Central | 2025 WI -Wisconsin Shooters 2025 Gold

The Brookfield native is an undersized forward who understands how significant effort is for her. She did an excellent job carving out space against girls who stood four inches taller than her. Edmond’s rebounding prowess was a big reason Shooters played in transition at a high level.

Jordyn Peed Jordyn Peed 5'9" | SG Eau Claire Memorial | 2024 State WI -Team Wisconsin 2024 Schmeling

I’ve loved Peed’s game from the moment I first saw her play back in Minnesota for the Midwest Kick-Off. Her versatility as a small-ball four makes her an intriguing prospect. She can do a little bit of everything, including defending posts half a foot taller than her. She is an excellent athlete capable of doing almost anything asked of her, and I love that. I think there will be a lot of small school coaches who will be eager to try to get her into their program.

Grace Carlson Grace Carlson 5'7" | SF Amery | 2023 WI -Team Wisconsin 2023 Murray

The Amery guard is an excellent 3&D prospect with room to grow. Her athleticism will likely help her get some playing time early at the next level. The 5-foot-7 guard is strong enough to keep opposing guards in front and be an excellent team defender.

Mara Rieder Mara Rieder 6'0" | PF Menasha | 2023 State WI -Wisconsin Blizzard 2023 Hawley

The Menasha native was one of the kids who stood out on Sunday. Her athleticism as a 6-foot forward is remarkable, and she used that to grab plenty of offensive rebounds. Those rebounds turned into easy points, more often than not, and her touch around the basket made those points almost automatic. She showed some mobility on the defensive end as well. On that end, she has some room to grow due to her mobility and athleticism.

Lorena Awou-Quad City Shockers 2024

For a kid who has the potential Awou has, I loved what she was able to do right now. She used her 6-foot-3 size and finished around the basket at a high level with both hands. She looked comfortable on the block and didn’t bring the ball down on rebounds. Awou also showed a great deal of poise at the free throw line. She looked comfortable and fluid in her motion, making me think that her shooting is something that can improve from the floor. Awou looked excellent when I saw her on Saturday.
