The incoming sophomore displayed excellent defensive potential out on the perimeter, along with physicality on the glass for a guard. Tosch brings grit and aggression as a perimeter defender, proving to be a pest one on one. She is capable defending both 1s and 2s due to her steady footwork and attentiveness on opponent habits. She would routinely dig into opponents by getting a hand into their space, often causing them to rush a decision, subsequently creating a turnover. Another area of intrigue was her defensive rebounding tenacity, where she is capable out maneuvering bigs on the glass. Keep an eye on Tosch this year, she could very well put some of the better Continental League guards in tough positions.
Jennessee Byrd – Rangeview – 2024
Byrd will be an intriguing playmaker at Rangeview, due to her effectiveness as a communicator and ballhandler. At 5’7, the incoming junior guard will have an increased role at Rangeview with the recent departure of seniors Nyera West and Genesis Sweetwine. She shows promise a lead ballhandler, capable setting up plays and directing traffic. While she possesses leadership qualities, Byrd also proved to keep the defense honest through drives at the rim and right-hand finishes over contests. Byrd will be a physical guard worth monitoring this season, due to her upside as a downhill scorer and playmaker out of drives. Continuing to develop the jump shot, either off the bounce within the mid-range or off the catch from distance.
Jayonia Chaney-Hunter – Denver East – 2024
Chaney-Hunter brings potential as a pick and roll playmaker and physical defender. At roughly 5’6, the guard displayed physicality both along the perimeter and within the paint. The incoming junior guard proved to be a powerful downhill driver, who was capable making proactive reads to rolling teammates. Once at the rim, Chaney-Hunter proved to be dependable finishing in traffic, notably with her right hand. Although not the tallest on the floor, Chaney-Hunter showed no remorse for opponents attempting to box her out, where she proved all too physical and mobile to contain. On the defensive end, the guard showed she has plus footwork maneuvering around screens, rarely getting beat even when going over. She will be an intriguing name worth monitoring should she develop her offensive versatility as a shooter. Although the guard is currently unranked, I believe she has potential to get some looks from us this upcoming season.
Katie Wilkinson Katie Wilkinson 5'7" | CG Legend | 2024 State CO – Legend – 2024
At roughly 5’7, Wilkinson brings complementary scoring both as a shooter and playmaker out of drives. The incoming junior combo guard is capable relocating for jumpers all over the perimeter, thanks to the fairly quick form. Should opponents over help, she has the vision to hit backdoor cutters or open shooters. Wilkinson possesses high IQ as an off-ball cutter, quickly reacting to open passing lanes. Continuing to work on her pivot foot speed will have an impact on her scoring versatility around the rim. The combo guard currently ranks 136th within the 2024 class and 64th among combo guards.
