To start with the Top 250 event in Appleton on Sunday, I want to talk about a few standouts. These four kids were excellent at the event. So today, I'll highlight them and their games.

The Kenosha Indian Trail guard can score from anywhere on the floor and beat her initial defender. Gonzalez was excellent for many reasons, but everything she did wasn't forced and seemed natural. In a situation where she likely didn't know or barely knew her teammates, she played within the team and got her teammates involved. The more I saw her play over the summer, the more impressed I was with her and her game, and yesterday was no different.

[player_tooltip player_id='209909' first='Samantha' last='Schmitt']

I was a fan of Schmitt last season due to her natural leadership and ability to create for herself and others. She was the loudest player on the court and the bench when her teammates did anything positive. She's always 100% engaged in the game and has the same mindset every time she gets to the gym, and that's a skill in its own right. She's also much better at shooting the ball than last season. Everything on her jumper looks simple, and Schmitt is uber confident when she decides to take a shot.

[player_tooltip player_id='509624' first='Jessica' last='Oman']

The Lakes Community High School guard was excellent at the point of attack. She created multiple live ball turnovers and made good passes that got to their destination and on time to give her teammates the best chance of scoring. I liked how confident she was with the ball and guarding talented kids on the ball. She brought a lot to the floor, and I hadn't heard of her beforehand, so she was probably the biggest surprise of the day, in my opinion, at least.

[player_tooltip player_id='474774' first='Leah' last='Nordin']

The 6-foot-1 forward from Shawano was the kid who jumped out athletically the most. In a few minutes, she emphatically blocked a shot at the rim, created an on-ball steal at mid-court, and took it to the basket after showing off her ability with the ball in her hands down the court. She has the tools to help her succeed at this level. She can defend multiple positions, handle the ball, rebound, and her jumper has a lot of lift, so there aren't many kids who'll be able to get a good contest on her jumper. Nordin is one to watch over the next four years.
