Despite this trend, several teams are converging at The Cage in Swartz Creek every Sunday in October. I got a chance to watch Ovid Elsie play a couple of Division I teams on Sunday and came away impressed. This team has a lot of trio of juniors that possess height and skill. Ovid Elsie is going to have quite the squad the next two years.
Ava Bates | 2024
The six footer has a complete game and is a nightmare matchup. She was a scoring machine in the first week of the league. She uses her body to get space in post ups and is productive in high post as a driver. She didn’t hit her three point shots while I was watching, but a quick perusal of her highlights on Hudl showcases that the kid can hit in spot up and in transition pullups. She is a great passer out of the high post. She showcased the dribbling skills to go coast to coast. She rebounds and plays good defense. She averaged over three steals a game, a great number for a big.
Evalyn Cole | 2024
This is a kid that I enjoy watching because she plays with an edge- tough and hard nosed. She is a physical kid that has fast hands, which pickpocketed multiple ball handlers. She possesses a high IQ and moves off the ball very well. She is a cutting threat and has the strength to finish through contact.
Braedyn Tokar | 2024
Along with Cole and Bates, Braedyn is going into her junior year. I thought that she was a lefty until I saw her highlights from last year; her post moves seem more natural when she hits the lefty baby hook, which she sets up well. She shot close to 40% from three last year and possesses a soft touch from the mid range. She can drive to the bucket and runs well in transition. Though she is listed at 5’9, she looked taller to me.
Kiah Longoria | 2023
This is a guard that is very opportunistic; she tends to get the hustle plays. She runs hard in transition and crashes the boards well for her size. She is one of those glue kids that every team needs.
Hailee Campbell | 2024
Hailee is another high energy glue player that does damage despite having a low usage. She excels in transition and in the dunker position.
