This past weekend, I spent over 20 hours in the gym and tried to observe as many prospects as possible! The class of 2027 has some guards that I really enjoy watching. Here are a few that performed well at The Main Event.
Aldridge is a skilled Point Guard who can handle any type of defense that comes her way. She demonstrated a nice hesitation dribble to bypass her defenders. She is relentless on the defensive end of the floor, securing many deflections and steals. Her impressive performance during the freshman basketball season is carrying over into her grassroots season.

Simpson is a crafty guard who just makes good things happen for her team. She was scoring at all three levels at the Main Event and has next-level passing abilities. She will be a player to watch the next few years.

Layla Babich
This was my first time watching Babich and it didn’t take me long to realize that she is a BUCKET! I sent a message to our PGH staff and let them know that we missed one in the ’27 rankings! Layla is a scrappy player who finishes well around the rim with both hands and hit many mid-range jumpers. She works hard on the glass from her guard position and secured numerous offensive rebounds to give her team even more scoring opportunities. I’m excited to watch her more this spring and summer.
Porter is a poised Point Guard who consistently makes good decisions with the ball in her hands. She utilizes a quick jab step to get by her defenders and finishes crafty around the rim with both hands. She can also knock down the outside shot and has great range.

Freeland is a player that attacks the hoop strong and can finish through contact. She is an efficient shooter who knocks down the shot behind the arc at a high percentage. Kenzy turned up her defensive pressure this past weekend and was forcing tons of turnovers.
Ainsworth is a coach’s dream come true with her energy and effort. She is going 100% every second that she is on the floor. Marissa is tough! You will watch her attack the hoop and take a hit, and she just bounces right back up. She hit a big 3-point shot for her team in a game that went down to the wire. She is relentless on the defensive end of the floor.

Reid is a skilled Point Guard who is adept at creating opportunities for both herself and her teammates. She has a keen ability to assess the situation and make the right decision once she gets the ball into the lane. In addition, she has a remarkable shooting ability and made several impressive shots from beyond the arc. Notably, I cannot recall her missing a single shot from the corner throughout the entire weekend.
