The Hempsted guard is a rhythm shooter, and over the summer, I saw her shoot it well. The best attribute of a shooter is their confidence, and Kay has plenty. Whenever I watch her play, she makes me feel like every shot she takes will go through the basket. Kay also has an effective dribble pull-up jumper. The tempo of her game is effective because she doesn’t play at the same pace often, she keeps kids guessing, and that helps her get her shot off even when guarded closely.
Elise Jaeger Elise Jaeger 6'1" | PF Valley | 2024 State IA
The Valley forward is a versatile kid who does damage on the perimeter and interior. I love her ability to own the area around the basket through rebounding. Last year at the state tournament, she made an excellent account of herself in the state quarterfinal. In that game against Roosevelt, I thought Jaeger was the most influential player on the floor. Regardless of whatever the defense did, she always seemed to have an answer. Her ability to problem solve on the fly is excellent and makes her one of the most challenging forwards to defend in the paint.
Brynnly German Brynnly German 5'5" | PG Martensdale-St. Marys | 2024 IA
I love German’s ability as a passer. German led all sophomores last season with 6.2 assists per. After watching some of her films, I loved what she was able to do as the roamer in her team’s zone offense. When German got the ball at the free-throw line, turned, and saw the back line of her opponent’s 2-3 zone, German had the defenses at her mercy. She could pass, shoot, or get to the basket from that spot. She plays intelligently and makes her team better.
Brooklyn Stanley Brooklyn Stanley 5'8" | PG Bishop Heelan | 2024 State IA
The Bishop Heelan guard can score in many ways and has a high level of creativity when required. When Stanley gets to a euro-step in transition, she looks like she’s done that specific move a thousand times before. Stanley is also a physical defender who picks up the second her assignment crosses halfcourt. Over time her relentless style wears kids down, and it’ll show late in games. That’ll probably lead to wins for the Crusaders this season.
