Division IV Morenci
The most impressive thing about Morenci’s run is that they are 4-0 and have played perennial D4 powerhouse Lenawee Christian and gave a solid Reading team its only loss of the season. While Morenci does have some star power, they get it done as a team. Alyssa Gibbs and Leah Rorick are consistent scorers, both entering double digit scoring most nights. Freshman Addyson Valentine has become a got to defender who is also starting to increase her scoring. Rebounding has also become a team affair as the team has a different leader each night, with Josie Zuvers having consistent nightly production. Despite the team focus, they do have kids that can have explosive nights, see Emersyn Bachelder‘s 17 point opening night.
Division III Ithaca
The 5-0 Yellowjackets have a gem in three level scorer Delaney Seaman. While a great scorer, Delaney seems to relish passing and doing the little things that coaches ask but so few kids do. She has an excellent motor and has the skill set. Sophomore Ivy Davenport is a whirlwind of activity on both sides of the ball and rebounds better than her 5’8 frame would suggest. The bulk of the low post work falls on Lauryn Humphrey. The senior uses her body to hold position and finish with physicality and is a PnR ace that opens driving lanes and finishes with nice touch.
Division II Divine Child
Sporting a 6-0 record, Dearborn Divine Child is a team that turns defense into offense as well as anyone in the state. They boast a pair of senior defensive specialists in Cecilia Vitti and Sydney Bourdon that terrorize offenses. Sydney uses off ball positioning to pick off passes, and Cecilia is a lockdown on ball defender that forces bad passes galore. Offensively, the team is led by an absolute stud in Kennedy Blair Kennedy Blair 5'9" | SG Dearborn Divine Child | 2023 State MI . The kid is averaging 21-8-5 and possesses a wide ranging skill set that sports a deep three game and offensive put backs. This kid is a nightmare matchup.
Division I Traverse City Central
TCC is a team on the rise after a couple of lean years. Sophomores Lucia France and Jakiah Brumfield Jakiah Brumfield 5'6" | PG Traverse City Central | 2025 State MI are a large part of the Northern Renaissance. Jakiah is a strong ball hawking point guard that is tough off the bounce and is developing a strong outside game. France is every bit of 6’1 and is a good finisher around the rim and contests shots. While the sophomore tandem is strong, the team has a strong leader in senior Catelyn Heethhuis. Heethhuis has gone from a high motor, energy kid to a strong all around player that pairs with fellow senior Halli Warner, a three point specialist, to give Central a starting core that can compete with anyone in the state.
