It was a great event where the proceeds went to benefit those who are struggling with or caring for people with cancer. Here are some of the dominant guards from the event.
Kyleigh Bacon
Kyleigh Bacon
Kyleigh Bacon knocked down her shot from deep. She got her hands in the way on defense deflecting passes as they tried to come in the paint. She knew how to find the openings to get a pass and some points. Her ability to fight through screens drew offensive fouls from her opponents. She even showed off her strength posting up on the block and making a tough shot through contact. After a time out, she came out in an isolation play using crossovers to get space and show off her midrange jumper for some points. She battled inside for rebounds using offensive boards for second chances. She had a nice spin move in the paint for some points.
Julie Janus
Julie Janus
Julie Janus does a nice job creating space for her teammates finding them under the basket. She picked the pocket of her opponents grabbing the steal to take the other direction. She makes smart decisions using shot fakes to get around defenders and drive hard to the basket. She whipped passes into her teammates on the block making sure they couldn’t be intercepted.
Jasmine Harris did everything for her group crashing the boards on both ends to grab rebounds, and she did so offensively to get some second chance points. She is smooth with her tricky handles breaking ankles running full speed, and she attacks the rim or knocks down her shot from deep. She finds her open teammates on the block after penetrating the paint. She’s smart in transition weighing her options between making a pass, taking it all the way, or pulling up for a jump shot. She even had a nice blocked shot.
Highlights
Malena Delisa
Malena Delisa
Malena Delisa is getting more playing time, and she certainly deserves it with her gritty defense and ball handling. She hustles back on defense getting in front of her opponents trying to score in transition. She had a nice hustle play going after the loose ball and throwing it off her opponent to go out of bounds.
Andrea Flores
Andrea Flores
Andrea Flores showed off her range, and she was smart handling the ball to get open. She was a quick responder knocking down her shots when her opponent thought they were going to take the momentum back. On defense, she was sticking right to her person making it difficult for them to dribble anywhere or even get the pass back to them. She had back to back three point plays in the fourth quarter, one with her shot from deep and one battling through contact at the rim.
