Today, we’re looking at some kids to watch in 5A the rest of the way for various reasons. Without further adieu, let’s talk about some intriguing kids who haven’t committed to playing college basketball.
I haven’t used this word to describe a player, but Palmer is a ferocious kid who plays with the determination to get to where she wants to go and win. I’ve seen players with more physical gifts, but they don’t hold a candle to a kid that wants it more. What makes her stand out to me is that you can stick anyone in the country in front of her, and I think she still has the mindset that she’ll go through them if she has to. There’s something to be said about that mentality.
Trishelle Miller
There isn’t anything more aesthetically pleasing than seeing a kid make the game of basketball look simple. Miller makes scoring look like a hobby. Given time and space to get her shot up, she’s confident and composed. She’s also under control when she gets in transition. Plenty of kids can go 1000 miles per hour, but not many can slow down and take a shot at the basket under control through contact. Miller is a kid who’s extremley under control, and she’ll only get better as she gets through high school.
There may not be a better wildcard in 5A than Zediker. When you talk about kids who can create their shot and get going in a hurry, Zediker is one of the first names that should come up. She’s an excellent athlete who can change directions and shake one-on-one defenders. Unless you’ve seen her before, she can surprise some kids with how quick she is, and if she finds a rhythm, it’s hard to cut that out as a team defensively.

What I love about Riley’s game is that she knows who she is and how to help Johnston win games. She’ll constantly have kids play off of her because of her perceived ability not to shoot, even though she’s making 44% of her 3-pointers, and she’ll either shoot, pass or consume that space and use it as a runway to attack the basket. Riley doesn’t make the game harder than it has to be, and some kids don’t figure that out until it’s too late.
