Davis was very impressive in Ann Arbor Pioneer’s win against cross town rival Ann Arbor Huron. She showed physical strength and solid vertical defense. Davis stayed straight up, searched for the ball, and didn’t come down on and get cheap fouls. She closed out strong on shooters, disrupting shots and not allowing easy looks. Davis also showed the understanding of when help defense is needed and the ability to slide over and provide it. She really spearheaded the Pioneer side of a defensive game.
Williams is a very intriguing basketball talent. She plays like a power forward on defense, but proved that she has 3 point range on her jumper and that she can effectively stretch the floor. Williams forced a couple of turnovers in the game getting a steal when playing denial defense and also picking off a pass. Williams was just all around very good on defense, closing out on a mid range shooter and picking up a block.

Olivet had a big win over Maple Valley. The numbers don’t necessarily sum up the influence that Otto had in that game. She did a great job owning and controlling the lane, making it incredibly difficult for her opponents to establish any type of position down low. Otto played solid post defense throughout the contest.

Gessner proved to be a very dangerous shooter. She hit 3 triples on the night, all in the catch and shoot variety. Gessner did a great job being balanced and shot ready on the catch. She caught the ball cleanly every time, didn’t take a prep dribble, and went up cleanly and smoothly.
Jones has been written about quite a bit lately, and she deserves every word of press that her play gets. We’ve talked again and again about her explosive scoring and that was the case again against Redford Union as she finished with 24 points. Jones isn’t just a scorer though, and that could be seen in this game. She can play at a fast pace and her pressure defense and anticipation can facilitate that. Jones is an underrated passer that can hit a teammate when on the move.
