With the Sectional draw this coming Sunday and just two weeks remaining in the regular season, I wanted to take the time to look back on what has been in Class 1A so far this year, highlighting a handful of teams and prospects, and preparing for the postseason. This won't necessarily be as detailed as our Sectional previews, as the draw will help lay out those matchups and odds to win. However, I did think it was a great opportunity to take note of some of the happenings in Class 1A at this time.

Class 1A Top Teams:
When I prepared the preseason rankings for Class 1A, I included a Top-10, along with an honorable mention section that added five more schools to the list. Of those 15 schools, 13 of them currently reside in the Top-15 of the Class 1A Sagarin ratings (mathematical algorithm that incorporates wins and losses, strength of schedule, home vs. away, point differential, etc.). Lanesville was our preseason #1, and they currently sit atop that list. Below is a comparison of our preseason Top-10, along with a list of the current Sagarin Top-10, as of the posting of this article. The three teams in our preseason Top-10 missing from the Sagarin Top-10 are Kouts, Bethesda Christian, and Bethany Christian. Kouts (12-6) currently comes in at #15, they began the year 0-3, but they have been strong since. Bethesda Christian (8-11) was high in the preseason based on the potential return of star player [player_tooltip player_id='177322' first='Kenzie' last='Fulks'] (2024). She just returned to action from a July knee injury on January 12th. Look for them to gain momentum heading into their Sectional play. And Bethany Christian (17-2) currently sits at #14. Their 327th ranked strength of schedule is likely keeping them out of the Top-10, but they can play.

On The Rise: Reagan Hughes, 2024, 5-8 G, Jac-Cen-Del H.S.
- Reagan is a long, wiry-strong, fluid combo guard who does a little of everything well. She can handle the ball and run offense when necessary, she's probably even better pushing it in transition and making plays, but this year she has stepped up as a scorer. She is in her third Varsity season, and she will likely score as many points this season as her first two combined. She is shooting a career best 37% (39-106) from 3-point range, and she has been solid from the charity stripe (73-105, 70%), plus she's getting there much more often. Defensively, she can take on most types of guards and wings, but she's also affecting passing lanes with her length and understanding of the game.

Under-The-Radar Recruit: [player_tooltip player_id='366796' first='Hannah' last='Bledsoe'], 2025, 6-0 F/C, Barr-Reeve H.S.
- There aren't a lot of people familiar with Hannah, partly because of location, but also because she isn't a grassroots participant. She is extremely long and wiry, fairly fluid, and somewhat bouncy. She stands out because of her mobility, and she can make multilevel plays at both ends of the court. Offensively, she is still most comfortable with her back to the basket, and despite needing strength, she does try to play physically. She has some touch in the mid-post, and she's a 76% free throw shooter, so I think she can expand her face-up game. Defensively, she is a nice pursuing rebounder, she'll block/affect shots, but she can also come out on the floor and defend wings as well.

Impressive Freshman: [player_tooltip player_id='486538' first='Trinity' last='Wilburn'], 2026, 5-5 PG, Faith Christian H.S.
- The Faith Christian Freshman duo of [player_tooltip player_id='486538' first='Trinity' last='Wilburn'] and [player_tooltip player_id='486509' first='Maya' last='Layton'] has taken Class 1A by storm, but that was expected. While Layton holds a couple of Division-I offers already and is a nice talent in her own regard, Wilburn has really stepped up this Winter, leading Faith Christian in scoring (21.1 ppg) and steals (6.4 spg), while also being second in rebounding (6.7 rpg) and assists (3.1 apg). Trinity is strong, quick, fast, and explosive in all directions. She changes directions instantly, and she has some vertical burst as well. The biggest thing for her moving forward will be to continue making her jump-shot consistent, otherwise she has the physical tools to take over games at either end.
