Continue ReadingGoing into the contest against the Iowa City-Regina Regals on Thursday night I placed this game as the most important and most challenging up until this point in their season for the Lynx and I may of not been wrong exactly but the Lynx’s ended up dominating in almost every facet of this game, on their way to a 72-52 win on their home floor. The Lynx were led once again by their emerging star this season in Kamryn Kurt Kamryn Kurt 5’6″ | PG North Linn | 2024 State IA . Kurt was perfect behind the three point line going 7-7 and scored a game high 26 points in the win. To add to this spectacular night for Kurt, she also joined the 1000 points club for her varsity career. A great and prestigious accomplishment that is well deserved by the junior guard. Going forward this Lynx team is going to go as far as Kurt and company can take them. They work hard, get off to quick starts, and can all shoot the ball, so going into playoffs I anticipate for this team to be at the top of the watch list of teams that could take home the state championship this season.
Ellah Kissell
Ellah Kissell
Ellah Kissell has been averaging some big numbers thus far this season but last night she had one of her best performances of the season against Hillcrest academy where she scored a total of 30 points on 13/22 shooting in their 66-33 win over the Ravens. Kissell, a scoring point guard and Kirkwood women’s basketball commit, has been a good leader for this team this season and the past few years. She does a good job of setting up and running the offense while being an annoying defender to her opponents. At the next level I could see her polishing up her offensive game and really becoming a game changer for a bigger college program after Kirkwood. She possesses good size and height for her position but doesn’t let it define her, if there is a way to get to the basket over a bigger defender, she will. This Waco team is dangerous they just need another player to step up once things get tough on Kissell. When it comes down to it, other opponents are going to force everyone but Ellah to score, if they can do this then Waco will walk out victorious but if they can’t, then it will be a different story.

Trishelle Miller Trishelle Miller 5’10” | CG Bishop Heelan | 2026 State IA is a name to know. She has been lighting it up this season and putting up some extremely impressive numbers from her combo guard position. I have Miller placed as a combo guard because of her versatility. She is a three level scoring athlete who can distribute, play defense, and put the ball in the basket at an extremely high rate. Last night in their contest again LeMars high school, Miller scored 28 points on 9/13 shooting in a 61-56 win. This season she has shown that she is much more than a scorer by leading her team in assists, showing that she can create for others and steals. Throughout their first 10 games she is averaging about 2.5 SPG, ranking her at the top of this category throughout the entire state of Iowa, no matter the class thus far. Moving forward watch out for this team. They have Miller and 2-3 other players that one day are capable of landing some high level offers from colleges all across the country.

Charlie Pryor Charlie Pryor 5’5″ | SG Woodbine | 2025 State IA and the Woodbine Tigers are ranked #6 in their class with an undefeated record of 12-0 with a chance to run the table and win it all this season. Pryor, a small but efficient shooting guard, has been the leading scorer of this team so far this year. While being labeled as a three point shooter mainly Pryor is always looking for her spot on the floor behind the arc to let it fly but that’s not all she is. She does a good job of moving with out the ball, creating difficult choices for her defenders. On Thursday evening the Tigers defeated MVAOCOU high school by a final score of 65-60 to keep their winning streak alive for this year. In the contest Charlie scored 22 points on 8/20 shooting, including 5/15 from behind the three point arc. Before this season began Prior wasn’t ranked, in general by myself and that was a mistake. She is showing off that offensively she is one of the better shooters and scorers in the state while also being one of the better overall player-makers in the class of 2025.
