With so many 2025s that have showcased their superb skills on the court this season, the phrase “sophomore slump” is not exactly in style in the Palmetto State.
When thinking about who the top sophomores are this state has to offer, even the most casual of fans can name at least some of those names. But there are plenty of others that probably fly under the radar.
Who are some of those names? It was difficult to narrow our list down to five, but without further adieu, here are five from the 2025 class that may be, indeed, flying under that radar.
Middleton has played her travel ball with Team USC Unleashed. She has been a big reason why the 1A Trojans have been particularly difficult to contend with on their home court. Cross has only dropped one out of its six home games this season and that defeat was to the 2A powerhouse known as Timberland. Middleton is navigating the Trojans through a Region 8-A that includes St. John’s as well as two-time defending 1A champions Military Magnet. Between what she does as a scorer, rebounder and defender, there is a reason why Middleton was an eighth grader playing at the varsity level.
Wilder has positioned herself nicely to be a primary element in a winning formula for the 3A Panthers in the coming seasons. Chapman occupies a 3-AAA region where Blue Ridge and possibly Travelers Rest may serve as the primary competition for the Panthers. Wilder is an effective scorer for Chapman and a key element of what she does in that element of the game comes from her accuracy from 3-point range. She is also an effective ball distributor and will have her games where she collects a high amount of rebounds. Collecting steals is another primary element to her game.

Harvey is a near-six foot big for a Blazers team that was reclassified to 4A after spending the last couple of seasons as a 5A school. She has played her travel ball previously with Palmetto 76ers and has also competed as a track and field athlete. Harvey is a double-double possibility on a game-by-game basis with how she can grab rebounds and also score points. A midrange jump shot is also part of Harvey’s offensive repertoire and she will consistently look to find spacing in the interior. The Blazers managed to win its first two region games but its region includes a pair of tougher outs in A.C. Flora and Westwood.

In 15 games this season, Booth has averaged nine points, 8.4 rebounds and two steals per game. The Eagles are in a region that include tough outs such as North Augusta and Aiken. Booth’s rebounding attributes are more commonly found in frontcourt players, but they are a key attribute of how versatile she can be. Defensively, she can create additional possessions with her ability to collect steals. Booth is also effective in the transition game and she can be accurate from behind the 3-point line. Airport is playing its seventh season as a 4A team since moving up from the 3A ranks.
Moody is one of the key players for a Yellow Jackets team that has established itself as one of the premier teams to beat in 4A play this season. And it is not as if Greer is in an easy region when dealing with the likes of Riverside, Wade Hampton and Eastside. She causes issues for opposing teams as her stellar defense can lead to additional possessions for her team. Moody also is skilled as a transition runner and can put a sizable number of points on the board. In 15 matchups this season, Moody is averaging 10.8 points and 2.6 steals per contest.
