There she goes, Miss America. Everyone knows the lyrics to that song especially when you turn on the TV and you see all the many beauty pageant contestants that represent their state. Scratch that. I'm here to talk about something better than that in my mind. Each year we have countless girls that suit up within these borders to compete on the hardwood floor. From the small mountain towns in East Tennessee to the flat lands and city streets out west, we have young ladies, who put their blood, sweat, and tears into a craft that will hopefully lead them to bigger things down the road for themselves and their families.

The 2022–23 high school basketball campaign is slowly coming to an end. Right now as public schools are about to start their district tournaments and private schools region tournaments are about to fire up, the 2022-23 finalists have now been announced for Miss Tennessee basketball.

The crazy thing about this award is that so many young ladies are deserving to be named this prestigious accolade . It's a tossup. The talent is so rich in this state that anybody could win it. I just shake my head at how deep the talent can be around here. From the freshman class to the senior class and in between, you never know what girl is going to have a fantastic year. She'll get hot, she'll will her team to victory, she will put her school on her shoulders, and they ride off towards a winning streak. The possibilities are endless as there are some many young hoopers who have the capabilities to do such a feat.

It's the little things that get people nominated for this award. It's about the grit, the blood, sweat, the tears, the nights spent training when no one else is in the gym. It's about heart and commitment. This award goes out to the young ladies, who have the passion and skill to rise above. The old saying that the cream rises to the top. Well, this is a prime example of that old adage.

This year watching ball across the state has brought me tremendous pleasure. Seeing the individual battles, seeing young ladies overcoming adversity to rise within themselves and compete, I'm astonished at that. The student athletes who are nominated for this award have truly shown and embodied what it takes to be an outstanding student-athlete. They have perfected the craft and have excelled at it when it's mattered.

So on March 13, 2023, stay tuned to hear the names of the miss Tennessee basketball winners. These young ladies will be nominated by sportswriters from across the state at a ceremony at MTSU. These high achievers, high academic students, these awesome basketball hoopers, will be given the flowers that they so deserve from their outstanding play this year. Congratulations to all the young ladies, who have been nominated for this most prestigious award given to the best basketball player in the state of Tennessee.
