We are vastly approaching District Tournament play here in Kentucky. With that being said it’s time to highlight players who will be key contributors for their team in route to a district championship this season.
A’Lyrica Hughes
A’Lyrica Hughes
The Lady Devils are 18-8 on the season led by star guard Alyrica Hughes Alyrica Hughes 5'8" | SF Owensboro | 2024 State KY . She is a big time player that can impact the game in many ways. Hughes wreaks havoc on defense by playing aggressive and applying pressure on ball handlers. She gets a lot of steals this way that usually lead to points in transition. When she gets downhill using her blazing speed she is so hard to stop. Hughes is a great ball handler, distributor and knock down perimeter shooter. The Junior is leading the team in almost every statistical category but 14 points and 7 rebounds is what I have noted. Yes, Owensboro did make an earlier exit last season but if Hughes continues to play at the top of her game don’t be surprised if you see them crowned champions of the 9th district this year. The super sophomore Nicole Archibald Nicole Archibald 5'6" | SG Bracken County | 2025 State KY is highly regarded as one of the most talented 2025 prospects in Kentucky. Archibald has been tearing up the 10th region all-season long putting up 16.7 points per game and doing so in grand fashion. She is an elite scorer that can go for 20+ points on any given night a pure bucket-getter if ask me. Her highlight worthy skill and ability is truly something special to see. Archibald is also a tremendous long distance shooter with unlimited range from three, her half court game-winning shot against Fleming County is a prime example of the type of range she possesses. The Lady Bears lost to Mason County in the championship game last season, with Archibald playing how she’s playing I see her delivering a 39th district championship back to Bracken County.
After being plagued by injury for most of the season the Lafayette Generals look to repeat as champs of the 43rd district. The standout sophomore Savannah Jarvis Savannah Jarvis 6'0" | SG Lafayette | 2025 State KY looks to lead her troops to battle. She is averaging 13 points along with 7.3 rebounds per game leading Lafayette in both categories. Simpson’s ability to affect the game on offense from the inside and out makes it hard to contain her for 32 minutes. Combine that with her ability to guard positions 1-5 on defense makes her a key player for sure. Now that they are at full strength the Lady Generals look to go back to back this season.
Ayanna-Sarai Darrington Ayanna-Sarai Darrington 6'2" | C Frederick Douglass | 2024 State KY
Ayanna-Sarai Darrington Ayanna-Sarai Darrington 6'2" | C Frederick Douglass | 2024 State KY
The RED HOT Lady Broncos have made all the doubters believers this season going 14-0 in the 11th region and 8-0 in district play claiming the regular season title. The double-double machine Ayanna-Sarai Darrington Ayanna-Sarai Darrington 6'2" | C Frederick Douglass | 2024 State KY is a big reason why Douglass has been so successful this season. Darrington has raised a lot of eyebrows lately as her potential really starts to show. She’s pouring in 12.5 points and 10.7 rebounds each game. Her best performance this season came against Henry Clay she had 24 points and a career-high 24 rebounds. With her being such a difference maker in the interior along with their great guard play I see Douglass winning the 42nd district.
Brooklyn Stewart
Brooklyn Stewart
Brookyln Stewart is having an outstanding season for Muhlenberg County. She leads the team in scoring with 19.5 points per game and rebounds with 9. Over the past 3 games she has been on a tear putting up two 20+ point games as well as 10+ rebounds. Through this stretch the Lady Mustangs have gone 3-0 improving their record to 19-8 on the season. She will be the X-Factor once district tournament time arrives, as her versatility makes her very hard to matchup against. Stewart protects the rim on defense, scores at all 3-levels on offense, and rebounds at a really high clip. With her dominant play Muhlenberg County will indeed become champions of the 10th district for the 6th time in 12 years.
Jenna Hampton
Jenna Hampton
For the first time since 1999 Morgan County has finished the regular season undefeated in district play locking up the #1 seed in the district tournament. The high-scoring guard Jenna Hampton has been the one her team can count on this season. Hampton shoots it from three and the mid-range very consistently. She can also attack the basket and get to the rim and score when defenders overplay her. She is averaging 23 points a game leading the Lady Cougars in scoring. With her playing at such a high level I see Morgan County winning the 62nd district.
