PVI and Bishop Ireton played the game of the day on Saturday in a thriller. The game was close throughout, and it was back and forth. Louis Volker Louis Volker 6’0″ | SF Paul VI | 2023 State VA wasn’t her best for a lot of the game. But she was fantastic in the second half. She hit a couple of threes late in the game, one of which was a buzzer-beating game-winner—a big shot for a big-time player. On Sunday, in the semifinal against Bishop McNamara, she had a double-double to help PVI place their name in the final.
Laura Williams Laura Williams 6’2″ | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA was her usual self against Bishop Ireton in the quarterfinal dominating on defense and playing big on the glass. But she took her play up a notch against number 1-seeded Bishop McNamara. She finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and two clutch FTs down the stretch. Bishop McNamara had difficulty keeping her off the glass, and she was phenomenal out of the post.

I mentioned earlier that Laura Williams Laura Williams 6’2″ | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA had a lot of success against Bishop McNamara, but it didn’t come easy when LaNae’ Corbett was in the game. LaNae’ played tough all game and battled with Williams. LaNae’ finished with 10 points and 10 boards and showed her skill around the rim, muscling through defenders.
Our Lady of Good Counsel got blown out Sunday against St. John’s, but Talayah Walker Talayah Walker 5’11” | SF Good Counsel | 2024 State MD showed out. She finished with 18 points, more than half of her team’s points. She showed off her shooting ability and put on an excellent scoring performance. She also played a big part in Good Counsel’s 25-point win over St. Mary’s Ryken in the quarterfinal.
Delaney Thomas Delaney Thomas 6’2″ | C St. John’s College | 2023 State MD played big in both games this weekend, gobbling up boards and dominating inside. She had 18 in St. John’s 21 points over Elizabeth Seton in the quarterfinal; then she followed that up with 14 against Good Counsel in the semifinal. Delaney missed a lot this year with an injury, so it’s good to see her back healthy.
There is a certain maturity in Kyndal Walker Kyndal Walker 5’9″ | PG St. John’s College | 2024 State MD ‘s game that allows her to take over games slowly, which showed over the weekend. Kyndal had 17 against Elizabeth Seton; then, against Good Counsel, she took over the second half getting into the lane, racking up assists, and finishing around the rim. She is a brilliant basketball player and was the biggest reason St. John’s dismantled Good Counsel in the second half.
