Today a look at some of those freshman who can now put aside the “rookie” label as they have put together a solid season, and a very good last couple of weeks.
I was very impressed with the play of Alex in the game I saw her play against league for Northwestern. Dixon is poised for a freshman and not only was able to control the pace of the game, she displayed very good handles and leadership for a freshman. She teams up well in the backcourt with PGH 2025 #10 Peyton Mounce Peyton Mounce 5’10” | CG Urbana | 2025 State OH , as Alex combines the ability to find the open player, but if you leave her open, she will make you pay. She came back on Monday in a game I was not in attendance with a huge 29-point performance.
I first saw Anna (feature photo above) at a PGH event back in the fall and left the gym impressed. She has grown into a mature freshman with great swag for the game. Anna is a key part in the amazing success that Mason has again this season and has made an impact. She is a smart, heady player who knows where to be on the floor. She also does a great job in getting everyone involved and is poised above her years. She has active hands on defense and can score from anywhere including the behind the arc.
The next 3 kids all play together at Fairmont High School, and all 3 have made such a big impact for a team who competed in the very challenging GWOC with their youth. Nico is a smooth floor general who controls the game well. She does a great job with the spin move to the rim and continues to work on her perimeter game including the three-point shot. She is an aggressive defender with active hands and can defect passes leading to scoring chances for her team.
Walked away very impressed with this freshman, you couldn’t tell she was a 2026. She goes downhill so well and plays the game with such a passion. Anticipates the game very well on the defensive side of the floor and is such a strong player on the boards. I really liked her explosive first step to the rim where she finishes well. Open ceiling for her as she continues to improve her game.

I had seen the other 4 freshman before, but this was the first time I had a chance to see Lena in action. The right-handed post player goes left well and can step out to hit the short corner jumper. Also aggressive on the boards and works well around the rim. Has good footwork and can finish well at the rim. Plays with confidence as she has just scratched the surface of her ability.
