A few freshmen had excellent first seasons in Iowa this season, and I think that’ll springboard them into having a similar AAU season over the next few months.
Macy Comito
I thought that Comito couldn’t have played any better as a freshman at Carlisle this season. She had to carry a significant responsibility of creating, initiating, and scoring for her team throughout the season, and she almost led her team to the state tournament. The more I dove into what Comito did, paired with how much responsibility the 2026 had, I couldn’t have been more impressed by her. She had a positive assist-to-turnover ratio, was one of her team’s leading scorers, and showed she could handle being a high usage guard against girls older than she is, and most kids can’t do that.
The Nodaway Valley guard got into high school and filled a role to help make her team better. She was consistent all year long and was part of the reason her team won games. Two things stand out about that, one, being a winning player gets overlooked at times, and two, being a winning player in a new environment and being younger than all of the kids you’re going up against isn’t seen as incredible it is, and that’s what Eisbach’s season was like.
Alyvia McCorkle Alyvia McCorkle 5'8" | PG Bettendorf | 2026 State IA
Last summer, McCorkle was one of the most fun kids to watch play. I thought she did everything outside of scoring that made her teammates’ lives easier. McCorkle created extra possessions by diving after loose balls, creating live ball turnovers, and bringing intense ball pressure to opposing lead guards. She can score the ball efficiently too, but everything she does outside of that might be the more impressive aspect of what she does. I have to imagine her teammates love playing with her.
Jayla Williams Jayla Williams 5'10" | CG Ankeny | 2026 State IA
The Ankeny guard helped her team have a historic season, beating some groups that the Hawks haven’t in years. She’s one of the most talented kids in the state and has her team headed in the right direction. Over the next few years, the Hawks have a real chance to make it to a state tournament. I also don’t see how coaches don’t love what she does this summer. She’s unbelievably good.
