Florida 17U EYBL Nike Nationals Stat Leaders

By Michael Wholey 7/29/23 7:00 AM EST   Nike Nationals concluded in Chicago last week and some of Florida's prospects were amongst the statistical leaders in the 17U division.     POINTS PER GAME   [player_tooltip player_id='217667' first='Kayla' last='Nelms'] ([program_tooltip program_id='713522' first='Miami' last='Suns'] Team Fowles 17U EYBL) 6'2 Forward – Class of 2024   <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2023/07/F01yGwfWAAAzvfJ.jpeg?w=819" alt="" class="wp-image-723695" width="260" height="324" /></figure>   Stats: 18.3 Points Per Game   Rank: # 6   After starting off slow, Nelms really got going in Chicago scoring 20+ points in 4/7 games while shooting an impressive 49% from the field and 40% from 3 showing why Nelms is one of the most versatile and efficient players in the country.  Nelms is so effective in so many ways and just taking a look at a stat sheet, shows you all the ways she can impact the game and dominate opponents.  Up against MW Premier, Nelms had 29 points on 11/17 from the field, 3/5 from 3, 4/5 from ft line, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals in just 22 minutes.  Talk about being effective in your time on the court! She finished Nike Nationals averaging 18.3 points per game, which was 6th in the 17U EYBL division.          REBOUNDS PER GAME   [player_tooltip player_id='217667' first='Kayla' last='Nelms'] ([program_tooltip program_id='713522' first='Miami' last='Suns'] Team Fowles 17U EYBL) 6'2 Forward – Class of 2024   Stats: 7.3 Rebounds Per Game   Rank: # 8   Nelms had double digits in 2/7 games, with a game high 12 rebounds vs NJ Gems on her way to a double double (21 points 12 rebounds).  Nelms, when in the paint is so strong, she is very hard to move out of the paint.  She can lean on opponents and be an extremely intimidating presence and such a dominant player.  Her performances in the EYBL show why she is one of the top players in the country! She finished Nike Nationals averaging 7.3 rebounds per game, which was 8th in the 17U EYBL division.       [player_tooltip player_id='283846' first='Jessica' last='Fields'] (Essence) 6'2 Forward – Class of 2025 (GA)   <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2021/06/IMG_7468.jpg?w=768" alt="[player_tooltip player_id='283846' first='Jessica' last='Fields']" class="wp-image-302897" width="240" height="320" /></figure>     Stats: 6.4 Rebounds Per Game   Rank: # 17   Fields came out of the block with 11 rebounds and 7 points in just 18 minutes in game 1 vs Midwest Elite.  For the tournament, she averaged 6.4 rebounds per game while never playing more than 20 minutes.  Playing up a division, the class of 2025 prospect plays with a bounce and energy and is very active on both ends of the floor!         [player_tooltip player_id='331745' first='Eris' last='Lester'] ([program_tooltip program_id='713522' first='Miami' last='Suns'] Team Fowles 17U EYBL) 5'11 Guard – Class of 2024   Stats: 6.2 Rebounds Per Game   Rank: # 20   Lester, a 5'11 guard, is just so athletic and active, it is impressive to watch her fly all over the court! She gets off the ground so quickly and pursues the ball so persistently.  Her stat sheet is very well balanced, and she impacts the game in so many ways.  In 7 games, she had four games where she had 7 rebounds and three games where she had 5 rebounds.  Crashing aggressively from the wing, she is hard to box out and is capable of getting balls well above her opponent's heads!     ASSISTS PER GAME   [player_tooltip player_id='852071' first='Olivia' last='Schmitt'] ([program_tooltip program_id='713522' first='Miami' last='Suns'] Team Fowles 17U EYBL) 5'5 Guard – Class of 2024   <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepgirlshoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2023/07/F011iqPWIAImElP.jpeg?w=819" alt="" class="wp-image-723696" width="201" height="251" /></figure>     Stats: 5.7 Assists Per Game   Rank: # 1   The ultimate point guard, Schmitt led the EYBL in assists per game at 5.7 assists per game.  In her last two games of the event, she dropped 8 dimes vs North Tartan and 10 dimes vs MW Premier.  Schmitt uses her ability to change speed and direction to keep opponents off balance, attacking in transition and in the half court to collapse the defense, draw defenders and create scoring opportunities for her teammates.         [player_tooltip player_id='248320' first='Trinity' last='Turner'] (Essence TipHayes Purple 17U EYBL) 5'8 Guard – Class of 2024   Stats: 4.0 Assists Per Game   Rank: # 13   Turner had a balanced offensive attack in Chicago, averaging 11 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.  The 4.0 assists was good enough for # 13 amongst 17U EYBL players dropping 6 dimes vs Team Taurasi Saturday and then again Kentucky Premier on Monday.   Turner consistently attacks off the dribble and gets into the interior of the teams defense and creates easy shot for her teammates.
