Continue ReadingSamantha had a terrific weekend shooting the basketball at the Summer Showcase. It’s obvious that she has the green light whenever she has a good look at the basket and rightfully so. Samantha was able to knock down several mid-range shots and also drained a few from downtown. She has a nice high arc on her shot and given her size, her shot is difficult to defend. Her constant movement away from the ball allows her to shake loose from defenders and give her teammates an easy target. She plays well in transition and can get up and down the floor in a hurry. She continues to be a willing defender that uses her length to disrupt passing lanes and keep the ball out of the paint.

Jodi had a tremendous Day 2 game at the Showcase. At 5’10, Jodi uses her size well inside to get easy baskets and is as reliable as they come when she gets the ball near the basket. She has a nice soft touch around the rim, making her a very efficient scorer. She seems to always take good, high percentage shots that fall within the flow of the offense. She is a dynamic three point shooter and will shoot without hesitation when she has the look. She certainly continues to trend upward and we will be hearing a lot more from here over the next two seasons at 1 of 1 Prep.

Ava had a stellar weekend and she is tracking to be a High Major multi-positional player that coaches should have all over their radar. She has a very advanced skillset and her size gives her an advantage at nearly every position she plays. Coaches can put Ava on the wing, at guard or in the middle and she is sure to excel. She is a dangerous shooter and she is a mismatch nightmare for bigger defenders who have to guard her on the perimeter. She can run the pick and pop with her super quick release on her shot or she can attack the rim when she needs to. She is a strong rebounder and she will defend the paint, contesting shots with her length. She’s very athletic and just an overall special basketball player. Already one of the top players in her class in South Carolina, Ava has a very high ceiling and college coaches will want to get in on her early.

Brook is an aggressive 3/4 player that commands your attention. She displays such a great mix of power and athleticism. She embraces contact and does not back down from her opponents. She is a very strong rebounder and finishes inside well. She displays nice footwork and showed off some nice moves when she attacked the rim. She is a true throwback forward that can still play the modern game. She is versatile enough for coaches to put her inside to be the enforcer or drop her back on the wing to spot up. We expect her to have yet another strong season at South Central.
Highlights
Tamia stood out this weekend with her ability to seemingly do it all. She is a player that if given the opportunity, could play and defend 1-5. There was a sequence in which Tamia blocked her opponent’s shot in the paint, hustled after the loose ball, led the fast break through multiple defenders in transition and scored through contact. That is difficult to do. She has a nice post up game and can finish with a nice jump hook over defenders. She is a very aggressive rebounder and shot blocker and will defend the paint relentlessly. Tamia already holds an offer from UNC Wilmington and more should certainly be on the way.
