From the point guard wizardry of Mya Moore Mya Moore 5'10" | PG Orono | 2026 State MN to the power and skill of Kate Amelotte Kate Amelotte 5'11" | SF Wayzata | 2026 State MN to elite talents like uber-lengthy Cail Jahnke Cail Jahnke 6'2" | CG St. Michael-Albertville | 2026 State MN and sharpshooter Vienna Murray Vienna Murray 6'0" | SG East Ridge | 2026 State MN – all of them Top 10 prospects in the Class of 2026 – the team was stacked with some of Minnesota’s best incoming sophomores. The one player who really distinguished herself, however, was a freshman-to-be who dazzled us with her all-around excellence. Given that she’s a year younger than the rest, Mya Wilson Mya Wilson 6'1" | CG Hill-Murray | 2027 State MN is eligible for whatever 2027 accolades we’d care to hand out and today we’ve selected her as our Prep Girls Hoops 2027 Most Valuable Player.
The one word that seems to be our go-to adjective when describing Mya’s game is ‘smooth.’ Everything she does appears to be so natural. The 6-foot combo guard, who isn’t done growing yet, has length, speed and athleticism. She’s quick and fast, can get to the rim in a wide variety of ways and she can shoot it at a high level. Very few players are capable of changing direction and executing a smooth scoring finish once they are already in the air – Paige Bueckers comes to mind before all others – but Wilson makes it look easy most of the time. Her vertical is impressive. Her touch around the rim is notable. If there’s one fault in Wilson’s game it’s the fact that she is a little too unselfish at times. Wilson is a varsity veteran with two excellent seasons at Mahtomedi on her resume. This fall the incoming freshman has transferred to Hill-Murray for high school.
Mya wasn’t the only 2027 who had a terrific summer. There were plenty of talented players in the mix when it came time to discuss who might be deserving of this honor. Pressley Watkins Pressley Watkins 6'0" | CG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2027 State MN of Legacy Hoops Elite had a dominant summer for coach Demondi Johnson’s team. Amisha Ramlall Amisha Ramlall 5'11" | CG Rosemount | 2027 State MN delivered a performance to remember in Minnesota Fury 2027 Blue’s AAU State Championship run. Big Kaelyn Bjorklund Kaelyn Bjorklund 6'1" | PF Lakeville South | 2027 State MN of Minnesota Stars Antl got better and better as the summer went on, showing off a combination of power forward strength with guard skills that definitely got noticed. And then there is point guard Morgan Mathiowetz Morgan Mathiowetz 5'6" | PG Sleepy Eye St. Mary's | 2027 State MN of Minnesota Rise Busse, who dazzled us with her very deep bag of tricks from start to finish. All of them are deserving of post-season recognition which is why they make up our First Team of 2027 All Stars. We believe Wilson was a notch above the rest, though, and is most deserving of MVP status. Congrats Mya. We look forward to watching you for many years to come.
PLEASE NOTE
As with the other Prep Girls Hoops All-Star honors handed out this month in Minnesota, players are included with their grade-level peers regardless if they played up or not. That’s why Wilson was cited here with the 2027s and not up with the 2026s. In addition, only Minnesota-based athletes were eligible for PGH All Star or MVP selection. That’s the only reason why you won’t see Olivia LaBlanc included here. The Hudson, Wisconsin prospect had an outstanding season for Fury 2027 Blue and was a key reason why coach Sam Ebbenreiter’s team was able to take home the 14U state title. Out-of-state players who excelled for Minnesota teams this summer will be recognized next week. Also note that even though some players have already committed to a different club for 2024, the AAU teams listed here are the ones the athlete played for in 2023. That makes it easier for college coaches and others to revisit their notes from this summer’s action.
