You talk about some cut throat battles, buddy in this class, there are some nice prospects who can go toe to toe with the best of them. This has to be one of the deepest classifications in the state. If all classes could compete for one crown, I would bet that this class would be in the mix if there was ever such an opportunity. This classification is a fun one, filled with some outstanding ball players. From the west side of the state to the east side, plus in between, the double A classification will be an exciting group to keep your eyes on. Here are some clubs that will be in contention for the crown this upcoming year.
Over the last couple of years, the Westview Lady Chargers have taken the crown, winning back to back state titles. Missing from the mix will be Miss Tennessee and MTSU Lady Blue Raiders signee Jada Harrison, but don’t count the Lady Chargers out just yet. Junior McCall Sims McCall Sims 5'8" | PG Westview | 2025 State TN is still there with a host of other Lady Chargers. McCall is a dynamic playmaker who can score the rock. With more responsibility on her shoulders this year, this young lady has what it takes to lead the calvary. She possesses a great feel for the game and with her at the helm, this club will be in the mix down the stretch during tournament time.
McMinn Central is a tough young group. Molly Masingale Molly Masingale 5'9" | SF McMinn Co. | 2024 State TN and Karina Bystry Karina Bystry 5'10" | PG McMinn Central | 2025 State TN provide a nice one-two punch. This Lady Chargers team (ironic huh, must be something about the Charger name) is poised to lift up that gold ball come March. With practically the whole team returning, these young ladies know what it takes to get over the hump. They had a great June team camp, where they bonded and got stronger both in the weightroom and on the floor. Molly committed to Wofford and Karina went on a tear throughout the travel ball season. Add all this up plus each and every girl getting 1% better, this club will be one you all will see in the Glass House in Murfreesboro when it’s all said and done.
Gatlinburg Pittman is gonna be super tough to deal with. With Nya Bruns and Maliyah Glasper Maliyah Glasper 5'6" | CG Gatlinburg-Pittman | 2026 TN operating at the guard position, mix in Maddy Newman Maddy Newman 6'2" | C Gatlinburg-Pittman | 2024 State TN down low, you’re looking at state contenders especially on paper. This club is one of the most sound clubs around. They attack you in so many ways. From speeding you up on the defensive end to create turnovers or forced missed shots, to picking and choosing where to attack on the offensive end, this club is definitely a favorite to end up in the championship game.
Don’t count the York Dragonettes out of the equation. The club plays with poise and is one of the most solid fundamentally clubs around. With a fearless leader in Reese Beaty Reese Beaty 5'8" | PG York Institute | 2025 State TN , you know these young ladies will always be in ballgames. Reese had another incredible summer where she competed in the EYBL, picking up offers along the way. Bringing back to her school her experience and infectious attitude, I expect York to give a lot of clubs a run for their money.
Never count the Loretto Mustangs out of anything. They are a tough group of girls who just get after it and play the game the right way. These girls are hungry and compete to the utmost degree every time they step on the floor. Built with steep tradition, these girls are solid. They play hard and play together and when you suit up against them, expect it to be an all out battle the full 32 minutes.
Gibson County. Enough said. Senior Micah Hart Micah Hart 5'7" | PG Gibson Co. | 2024 State TN is back and she is ready to knock the doors down. She’s the spark plug that makes her team fire on all cylinders. This club plays with poise, they have grit, they know how to score the basketball, they defend, and they gang rebound. They are just a bunch of scrappy girls who get after it.
The club that will sneak up on you is Huntingdon. The Lady Mustangs are led by seniors Lilly Kee Lilly Kee 6'0" | PF Huntingdon | 2024 State TN and Annabell Singleton. Gym-rats, who will outwork you on the little things. Details matter in these parts and this club is notorious for doing the little things well. With the seniors they have, look for them to take it game by game and finish near the top once it comes tournament time.
Don’t leave Alcoa out of the mix. They are a sound club that always seems to find a way. The saying “ if there is a will, there is a way,” well this club definitely knows how to compete. The club has great guard play and can battle in the paint. Mix in the depth that has come along and they will be a club to be reckoned with down the stretch.
As you can see, no matter how you slice it, this AA classification in the state of Tennessee is tough. Steep in tradition and pride, these girls flat out get after it. No matter what part of the state, the road to the crown will be a hard one. I mentioned earlier that this will be an exciting year in the AA classification. Fear of the unknown, well, not knowing, this class is up for grabs and it will be interesting to see who will be taking home all the marbles come March in Murfreesboro.
