These 4 programs bring back a good amount of players from their starters and bench, while having successful seasons just a year ago. If you have a chance this winter to stop by and see any of these teams compete, do it. You won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for turning in and enjoy!
Cascade High School (19-3)
- This team will return 2/5 starters from a year ago to their varsity rotation this winter.
- If you know anything about Cascade, you know they are a good program overall. They sweat the small details early on in the seasons and that usually fairs well for them as they get closer to the playoffs.
- Each year the Cougars have a well over .500 record. They will have that same goal once again this season but with the hopes that the end result is a little different this time round.
- Making up for production from 3 starters definitely hurts your program but if anyone can overcome that, it’s the Cougars. They will return some bench along with their starters. Some players that will be able to step in and prove themselves early on in the year. If they can do that, I think we will be hearing a lot more about this Cascade team as the year moves forward.
Hinton High School (20-4)
- Hinton is going to be in the same predicament with their starters as Cascade but with a little different-style of bench to back them up. The Blackhawks will return 2/5 starters from a year ago to their varsity rotation this winter.
- After posting a 20-4 record last season, I think that this group returning will be close to that record once again this season. I think they have the issue of a worse regular season schedule then the competition level they will face during the 2A post-season.
- Something that is a huge advantage with this group is that they have a lot of bench experience. They understand the game strategically and what each player on the floor excels at, skill-wise. This is going to fair well for them against better competition, when they do come to face it at some point down the road this winter.
- I am not going trying to say that this varsity teams success relies on one player by any means but the play of Bailey Boeve Bailey Boeve 6'0" | PF Hinton | 2026 State IA was everything last year for the Blackhawks and it’s going to be crucial again this season. She was a dominate force as a Freshman and I expect nothing less as a Sophomore.
Mediapolis High School (20-4)
- A team that is going to bring back more starters than not from a season ago is the Mediapolis Bulldogs. The Bulldogs will have 3/5 starters coming back, with their 6, 7, & 8th players returning as well.
- When you breakdown the Bulldogs stats from last season, it’s hard to find flaws in their numbers. They won by 21+ a game, averaged +3.5 Assists-Turnovers per contest, and held their own in the rebounding/steals department. All things they will need to carry into this winter if they want a shot at winning meaningful games.
- I sound like a broken record because I could say this with a good amount of teams in the 2A Class but Mediapolis is going to have to dominate their regular season, if they want to compete with good 2A teams. This is another program that will play the matchup in front of them but most nights, it’s not going to get them ready for high level 2A competition they will face, unless they take every play seriously.
- I have the same expectation this year, as the last for this program. If they can win a big game, against a good team to make it to Des Moines, then anything is fair game from there.
Sioux Central High School (17-7)
- Sioux Central went 17-7 last season on their way to an overall successful year. For this seasons roster to build off of that foundation they will need to replace 2 starters and a good amount of offensive production from last season.
- The Rebels honestly are sitting in a good spot coming into this winter. They need to fix somethings from last year like their TO problem and their overall FG%, but if they get those two things under control, everyone should be careful of this group come Playoff time.
- I think that losing during the regular season can both help and hurt you as a program. In this teams case, I think it helps them more than anything because of their level of competition. It gets them ready for the post season and that is not some thing MOST teams can say playing in the 2A class.
- Where will their season end? I’m not sure on this one. Could be a Top 10 team this year, could be lower than that, we will just have to wait and find out.
