So instead, I’m opting to break down prospects by area. Here’s a look at the top players in the farthest Eastern Kentucky/Mountain area of Kentucky. For purposes of this article, we are only considering the 14th, 15th and 16th regions.
The argument can be made that Trinity has been the best player in the mountains since she started playing varsity. She’s definitely been among the most valuable. Able to score or create for others, Rowe is the early favorite for 2024 Miss Basketball.
Shaelyn is a dynamic player who continues to get better. She’s still not reached her athletic peak and is going to be an absolute beast in college because she’s going to get bigger, faster and stronger and she’s already plenty fast and strong. Steele is going to end her career as one of the best to ever come out of Russell.
Audrey was limited to 13 games last season but is back to full strength now and has Boyd on the cusp of challenging for a regional crown again. Biggs is a scoring wing with great positional size and was one of the best free throw shooters in the state before her injury last season.
An elite shooter, Kyera slides in next to Trinity Rowe Trinity Rowe 5’7″ | PG Pikeville | 2024 State KY and Kristen Whited Kristen Whited 5’5″ | SG Pikeville | 2024 State KY to make one of the best backcourts in the state. Thornsbury posted shooting splits of 47/43/79 last season and is capable of joining the 50/40/90 club this season.
One of the most underrated players in the state, Jasmine is a polished post player and a nightly double-double. There aren’t many players in the Commonwealth that can get a low post bucket any time you get her the ball but Jordan fits that bill. She and Audrey Biggs Audrey Biggs 6’0″ | SF Boyd County | 2024 State KY have Boyd primed for a deep run this season.
