SubscribeThe annual Bison Classic hosted by Buffalo Grove High School always brings out the most talented teams in the Northwest Suburbs. Opening night headlined Barrington vs. Crystal Lake Central and a rematch of last year’s Super Sectional final Maine South vs. Hersey. Hands down, Maine South dominated on Wednesday night with the breadth of their team on full display. Here are some of the players new and established who stood out tonight.

Lily Richmond
Lily Richmond
Fresh to the HS scene, Lily Richmond plays with the confidence of an upperclassman. She is long, strong and her passing is on point. She navigates the court with authority and her name better be on your radar if it isn’t already.
Junior Spychala fought tooth and nail in the close came against a relentless Barrington team. She showed poise while playing defense, posted up and hustled up and down the court. She will play a big role on this Crystal Lake Central team this year.
Highlights
I never get tired of watching Molly play. The Dayton commit showed her dominance on the court as she always seemingly does. The girl can shoot from any spot on the court with unbelievable form and accuracy. Her role on the team has switched to leader and her direction on the court was evident.
The IQ on Fernandez is off the charts. She seems to have a sixth sense of where the ball is going to go and she is there with a a lightning fast release. She has ridiculously quick feet and she has one speed-fast. On an incredibly stacked team, she will be another one to watch this year and in the years to come.
Highlights
Hersey lost almost their entire starting lineup in the graduating 2023 class. The only freshman from last year’s team, Donovan, shows why it is important to bring underclassmen up for experience. She plays as though she has been in this position before although she had minimal court time last year. The point guard is cool, poised and is a great communicator.
