Continue ReadingRochester Adams is a rising program ready to take a gigantic leap forward this season. They finished 1-12 in OAA conference games last season and 4-18 overall. The Highlanders have the work ethic, promise, and enthusiasm to improve their record and I am anticipating a quality season from Head Coach Joe Malburg’s team this year. Coach Malburg provided an inside look at each girl on his Varsity roster this season.
Sam Blaine– “Third year starter, fourth varsity season. Sam is our swiss army knife. We asked her to play all five positions over the last two years and she has been up to the task. Sam has missed just two days of practice or games in two years (both for an out of state funeral) and has been a leader by example and vocally.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Faith Zoldos Faith Zoldos 5'9" | SG Rochester Adams | 2026 State MI – “Returning starter. Faith is a determined worker who is constantly improving and adding to her game. She earned a starting spot over the course of last season and eventually finished the year as our leading scorer. She recorded the fourth highest blocks total at Adams as a Freshman who mostly plays on the wing.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Layla Tomezak – “Returning starter. Layla is one of the quickest players in the OAA and a punishing on-ball defender. She emerged as our lead guard by the end of last season. Her passing and dribble penetration skills are exceptional and she is a tenacious leader on the court.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Bella Guthrie – “A coach’s dream in terms of attitude and work ethic. Has gone from the end of the bench on the Freshman team to a varsity starter. Constantly improving, never backs down and endlessly coachable. Most improved player the last two years first on JV, then Varsity.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Helen Flores – “Talented, creative and athletic, Helen was MVP of the JV two years ago and just started hitting her stride late last year, after battling injuries that cost her seven games. Good leader, unselfish, skilled passer, and a threat to score when she gets dialed in.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Sammie Hawkins – “JV player as a freshman, missed all of last year with ACL. Has been back to full competition for a few months now and rounding into shape. Supremely competitive, demands the most of herself and brings the best out of her teammates.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Kailee Huffman – “Leading scorer on JV last season. Second generation Adams Girls Basketball player. Had a huge summer, combo guard who is making a play for PG minutes. Can score inside and out and is an improving passer and defender. Keeps her head down and works hard, very coachable.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Raegan Jerrell – Up from JV where she led the team in assists and three-point percentage. Patient, purposeful and persistent, Raegan has a very high basketball IQ and thrives on helping her team win. So much so that she says she’d rather get 10 assists in a game than 20 points.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Nadia Heppner – “Rapidly becoming a force at the forward position. One of five sophomores on varsity expected to play a role. Nadia is a coaches kid and it shows. She is all business and all kindness. She will knock you down, score in your face, then help you up and make sure you’re okay.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Izzie Bass – “Will start the season with an ankle injury, but our tallest player also is one of our best perimeter scorers. She shot 40% from three over a nine game stretch this summer and is becoming a legit rim protector. Great attitude, multi-sport athlete and a dedicated teammate.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Regan Moore – “One of the most physical, athletic and relentless defenders I’ve coached. Once she learns the game more and is able to control her physicality, she will be a nightmare for whoever she guards. Guarded all five positions over the summer and was able to frustrate multiple star players to the point of them needing to be subbed out to calm down.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Molly Snook – “Captain of her freshman and JV teams, Molly is a superb teammate. She will battle for minutes this year while making us better every day at practice with her work ethic, attitude and outside shooting.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Nevaeh Williams – “Another hard work success story. Nevaeh was one of the last players off the bench in Middle School and has earned a varsity position through pure hardwork and drive. A tenacious rebounder and capable interior scorer, Nevaeh is also athletic enough to guard the perimeter when needed.”
-Coach Joe Malburg
Lena Schrer – “Every team should have at least one Lena. A kid who understands what it means to be part of a team and that there are no unimportant roles. Add her to the list of people I would not have expected to be a varsity player two and a half years ago who set a goal and put her mind to reaching it.”
