Basha at Higley Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Tuesday, December 12th I attended the matchup of the 6A<strong> Basha Bears</strong>&nbsp;at the 5A&nbsp;<strong>Higley Knights</strong>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Higley jumped out to a quick start and led 39-24 at the half. Basha had a good 3rd quarter and trailed 50-41 heading into the 4th. Basha made a mini run but Higley held them off behind [player_tooltip player_id='663048' first='Claire' last='Greenwade'] stellar play late in the game and won <strong>69-57. </strong> </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Here were some of the standouts of the game:&nbsp;</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='663051' first='Cadence' last='Murdough'] Higley (Pictured middle)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A long and tall power forward who moves well from end to end. She will score inside on hook shots, put backs and then step out and shoot the three. She rebounds and blocks shots at a high level and holds her ground inside the paint well.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='663048' first='Claire' last='Greenwade'] Higley</strong> <strong>(Pictured right)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>An undersized point guard has an extremely fast handle and a lot of skill. She scores on runners, floaters and speed layups. She is nearly impossible to keep out of the lane with her tight handle and blazing speed. She will drive and kick and is a true dimer. She collects steals in bunches and has surprisingly good footwork in the post with ball fakes. She closed the deal with some great passes and scores. She had close to 25 points.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='659945' first='Maci' last='Kerns'] Higley&nbsp;(Pictured left)</strong> </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another point guard on the court is always a valuable asset for good teams. She can drive and kick and is a good passer up the court. She scores on blow by layups and is a catch three point shooter. She gives hard ball fakes and has quick hands to collect steals.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='821243' first='Kaelin' last='Holloway'] Higley</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The freshman can play both forward spots. She scores thru contact and is very strong and will attack the glass and battle versus taller players. She has a big IQ to play the passing lanes.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='659947' first='Maya' last='Billan'] Higley&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A very long and tall post player. Her sheer size and length bothers her opponents to score in the paint.&nbsp;She scores it around the hoop and lives in the paint for the most part. Her and Murdough and forming a tough inside duo. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='659948' first='Ava' last='Taliaferro'] Higley</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A scoring guard is a shot maker. She takes some pressure off of the top scorers with mid-range jumpers and catch three point shots. She actually hit one jumper off balanced and faded away showing off her skill.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='624537' first='Grace' last='Beckler'] Basha</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A huge night for Bekckler. She had close to 20 points and 10 rebounds. She cleaned the glass in and out of her area. The lefty scores on tough layups in traffic and is tough inside and relentless to go versus anyone. She denies the post players entry passes well. She will also pass it out of the post to her open shooters and is the heart and soul of the team.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='807125' first='Rose' last='Bosch'] Basha</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A combo guard can make plays for her teammates and score. She can hit the catch three or dribble drive to the basket. She can also score on hook shots and put backs.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='387669' first='Rylie' last='Sword'] Basha</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the better junior shooters in the East Valley gets to her spots. She is a good passer and has a very quick shooting release. She can hit the mid-range jumper but she can get hot quickly and rattle in triples.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='807119' first='Terrais-Joi' last='Coleman'] Basha</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The talented freshman is a great passer. The southpaw can thread it in and is great in transition. She can shoot it from mid-range and has good length and size for a guard to defend on the ball.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
