Continue ReadingThe basketball court has a half court, two goals, freethrow lines, three point arc, etc. Someone once said age is nothing but a number, and another basketball philosopher said, “if you can ball- you can ball.” In this article we look at some 8th graders who have excelled on Varsity this season.
Arianna Robinson Arianna Robinson 5'4" | CG Miami Country Day | 2028 FL caught my eye at the Inside Exposure Thanksgiving tournament in Jacksonville FL earlier this year. She was poised, handled the ball well, and was extremely athletic, and just a good basketball player with a high basketball IQ. She ran the offense and made plays and was impressive. Robinson is quick and can get to the rim. Defensively she puts pressure on the ball and will take it if the handles are loose.
Kendall Proffitt Kendall Proffitt 5'10" | SG FL is also an 8th grader and she is proof that if you can ball- you can ball. Proffitt is ranked second in the entire state with 86 three pointers. She also averages 15.1 points per game. Proffitt was a standout over the summer, who shot the cover off of the ball, and she carried that momentum straight into this year’s basketball season. The young sniper has great size and can shoot over smaller guards. She is a special player who could finish number 1 in three pointers made in the entire State of Florida – as an 8th grader.
Londyn Tatum Londyn Tatum 5'6" | SG FL has played well this year as an 8th grader. She also played well last year on Varsity as a 7th grader. Tatum is smooth in the transition game and glides up and down the court. She fills the lanes well in transition and can also lead the break and score. Londyn can also shoot the three ball. On defense, the young baller can defend the ball, play good helpside defense, and play in the passing lanes.
Kennedi Tatum Kennedi Tatum 5'6" | SG FL is another 8th grader who has also played well this season. Kennedi and Londyn aren’t twins, but two-thirds of triplets who are double trouble on the floor. Kennedi plays a similar game as Londyn on the floor. She plays well in transition, plays well on defense, especially in the passing lanes, and can get to the rim and score when she is on the move. Kennedi can also shoot from behind the arc, but is a slasher who loves to get in the paint and do damage.
Note: The Tatum triplets and big sister Alanna Tatum Alanna Tatum 5'6" | PG University Christian | 2026 State FL have pulled off some major upsets over the last two seasons, including an upset win over Bolles last season and a win over Ridgeview this season in a pressure packed contest. Allana Tatum is one of the top Sophomores in the State of Florida. She also played varsity as an 8th grader.
Zoey Brown Zoey Brown 5'5" | PG FL has played well this season and her athleticism jumps out on the tape. She is a ball hawk on the floor who can rip the ball handler or steal the ball in the passing lane, where she shines. She does a good job of making plays after the steals, whether attacking the rim or passing to the open teammate. For the season, Brown is averaging 8.6 points per game, 4.9 steals, and 4.8 rebounds. Those are great numbers for any player, and she is producing those numbers as an 8th grader.
