There have been a few Sophomores outside the top of the class who are making their statements that they deserve to be thought of among the best in the class. Here’s a look at some players who are breaking out as Sophomores.
Daviess County is making a surge to the top of the 3rd region and Kennedy is having a big individual season. Averaging 18 points per game, Lane is on the short list for best player in the third region this season. At the very least, she’s the most improved and has been very good for the Lady Panthers.
Macy is having a solid season and forms one of the best trios in Southern Kentucky as she, Talynne Shearer Talynne Shearer 6’1″ | PF Rockcastle County | 2024 State KY and Taylor King combine for nearly 50 points per game. Spivey is quick and a very good finisher through traffic. Don’t sleep on Spivey having a big postseason and helping Rockcastle push for a regional title.
The Sophomore class at Calloway is home to two of the very best players in all of western Kentucky. Sayler Lowe Sayler Lowe 6’0″ | SG Calloway County | 2026 State KY gets plenty of highlights but don’t overlook Jaidan Koch as well. Koch is second to Lowe in about every category but it’s not a Batman and Robin type of relationship. The Lady Lakers have two stars on their roster. Don’t sleep on Jaidan Koch, long term.
Pineville is having a great season and are real contenders in the 13th region for the first time in a long time. Howard provides them a real post presence with the ability to score around the basket and rebound in her area at a high rate. Averaging 14 points and 8 rebounds per game, Rachel gives Pineville a leg up over many of their regional foes.
