Hawks definitely deserves praise for her play in Okemos’ hard fought loss to East Lansing. Just a freshman, there’s a lot to like about her potential and future. She played with a good amount of power for a freshman guard. Hawks had a physical righty bucket near the rim as well as a powerful straight line drive to the right for a bucket. She was a steady ball handler that showed some quickness with it in her hands.
Abbey Scholma
Abbey Scholma
Scholma was key in a true team win against Grandville. She was a difference maker off the bench for the Eagles. Scholma showed range on her jumper, connecting on 2 triples in the game. She was also able to run the floor and score in transition. Scholma even turned her defense into offense with a critical steal and score.
Grace Richardson
Grace Richardson
Richardson turned a lot of heads in a close loss to Hudsonville. The position description of shooting guard certainly fits the bill in this case. She must have had 4 catch and shoot 3’s over the course of the game. That’s not counting a deep catch and shoot 2 from just inside the arc. Richardson was just a tremendous spot up shooter that had a feel for finding open space and staying pass ready.
Emma Perez
Emma Perez
Perez came to play in Grandville’s game against Hudsonville. She came off the bench and had an immediate and consistent impact on the game. Perez really brought a lot of energy to the floor whenever she entered the game. She did a nice job drawing contact and getting to the line where she delivered, shooting 5-6 from the stripe. Perez had an impressive and athletic bucket swooping across the lane.
Hudsonville played great team basketball in the win against Grandville and Vanderbeek was a great example of that. She didn’t take bad shots or force the action. Instead she played steady, converted on good looks and stayed solid on the defensive end. Vanderbeek used the entire court when getting her buckets. She drew a foul and hit the free throws off a nice floater. Then she used a short 2 step take to the rim for a bucket and hit a 3 from the top.
