The MVP Of The Week is an individual that displayed what it means to put on a major performance/s for their perspective squad throughout the week. Someone who came out firing on all cylinders and dominated in more ways than one on the hardwood while putting up an eye-opening stat line.
The Players Of The Week are other individuals that were in consideration for the MVP of the week but fell just short in the end when taking into consideration all outlying factors.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!

- 2/8/24 vs Grand Island – 25 Points (11-16), 8 Rebounds, 3 Assist, 7 Steals, 1 Block, 1 TO
If you know anything about Girl’s High School Basketball in Nebraska, you most likely have already heard about Ani Leu Ani Leu 6’0″ | PG Lincoln North Star | 2026 State NE of Lincoln North Star High School. Leu is a longer and taller Point Guard. She moves fluidly with the ball in her hands and excels at scoring and disturbing off of the dribble. On Thursday night, Leu helped her team to a 40 point win with a 25 point performance on 11-16 shooting, along with recording a handful of other positive stats. I think the most important number to understand about this outing is that it happened without a single 3-point attempt. She just kept it simple and in the end, she had a big game because of it. Leu has a skill level and talent level higher than most her age and thats always on full display. If she continues to get better over her next few seasons at the high school level, she is going to have some good offers to continue on her basketball journey at the next level. She just has to stay locked in.
Highlights
Players Of The Week
Harley Straka
Harley Straka
- 2/5/24 vs Westview – 24 Points
Harley Straka was the main reason that her Kearney High School team won against Westview on Monday night. Straka registered 24 of her team 71 points and that was all the difference in a 2 point victory. On a team and within a program in which Straka doesn’t usually lead her team in scoring, it was vital in this contest that she stepped up or they would not have won. Her play was the “X factor” to get her team to an overall 11-9 record at this point in the season. Another important stat to be aware of is that in their 20 games of the season so far, Straka is averaging 8.8 PPG, meaning she tripled her production in this one. Hopefully as everything continues on, she continues with this type of production.
Karsyn Bower
Karsyn Bower
- 2/5/24 vs Riverside – 16 Points (6-7), 2 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 1 Steal, 1 Block, 2 TO’s
Karsyn Bower had the game of her season on Monday night against Riverside High School when she scored 16 points on 6-7 shooting, including going 4-4 from behind the three point line. If you dive into the numbers of this Burwell High School team for this winter, you see something pretty eye opening. You realize that Bower is only averaging around 2 PPG. That is nothing to be ashamed of but I think it’s noteworthy to point out because it shows how well she really performed in this contest. She was unconscious shooting the ball from the floor and because of that, her team got a much needed 10 point victory against Westview High School. The best teams out there have that “next girl up” mentality and this is a perfect example of that. The Longhorns needed an unlike offensive hero in this contest and Bower was there to provide. Plain and Simple.

- 2/6/24 vs Wallace – 19 Points (6-10), 3 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 3 Steals, 3 TO’s
The Southwest Roughriders recorded their 14th win of the season against Wallace High School on Tuesday evening. In this contest, the most consistent player on both sides of the ball was Anikka Nelms of Southwest. Nelms was all over the place. She was flying to create steals in the open court, she was running her teams offense whenever things would bring down, and she rebounded a little bit. In the end she scored 19 points on 6-10 shooting, while going 3-4 from the free throw stripe. These stats helped led the Roughriders to a 35+ point win, giving them some momentum moving into the Playoffs.
Avery Reeson
Avery Reeson
- 2/8/24 vs Silver Lake – 14 Points (4-8), 3 Rebounds, 5 TO’s
Giltner hasn’t put together the best season but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t had a player or two, step up and make some waves this year. As of most recent, a prospect that has stood out for giving it her all is Avery Reeson. Reeson is a Guard and she has been her team’s main offensive weapon up until this point. In their game on Thursday, Giltner only recorded 20 points throughout and 14 of them were from Reeson. As you maybe able to tell, this team is still trying to find their identity as a group. They do have a couple wins so far this winter but a big reason for those wins is because of the production of Reeson. Moving forward, I would try to continue to take the positives out of any moments they can. If they keep it simple, I’m sure they are going to find some more successful moments before this season comes to a close.
