Ademuwagun left me speechless after catching her in action for the first time. Yeah, I remember her watching older sister Tobi destroy teams with her explosiveness off the ground, yet Toni has a different type of explosiveness, off the dribble. That extra gear works in the set as well as in transition and watching her score leaving the defender cemented at times is ahead of her years. She finishes strongly after contact, she has good court vision, drops the jumper and applied heat defensively, good upside
Bouie also gave a lasting first impression. She’s “long and athletic” which will always be the base and watching her score and soar not to leave out diving on the floor all told me she had potential. Her timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots, along with playing the passing lane were all intangibles I love to see yet at the Dynasty Region Kickoff, my thoughts changed because she showed me should take over games offensively and put her team on her back, especially in the clutch
Highlights
Clarke grabbed my attention from afar at The Prime Event and as I was on one court watching her, also “long and athletic” come from out of nowhere to block shots, my vision ain’t 20/20 anymore yet it’s close enough to tell me I had to move. She hits the boards, on both ends, defends both in and outside the paint yet she also did a good job scoring on the inside as well as facing the basket to score. She set the defender up to take off the dribble so with her standing above “the magic number” more magic will be coming
Highlights
Grigsby was one of those surprise players I caught while watching another team and fortunately a parent told me she was only in the 8th grade. Her name was spelled incorrectly at first yet I got her game right as she brought so much energy on both ends that helped to change the momentum several times. Yeah, she goes after loose balls, on the floor and in the air but she handles the ball after the steal and went the length of the court to score or dish. She also scored off the dribble, nice body control after contact helped her finish plus she dropped the short jumper
Johnson has the right initials because when I see JJ, I know Good Times are coming because she’s #DYNOMITE. I have been using that same line for 15 years and it’s always good to catch the right players with those initials. She too is explosive off the dribble and her first step is very nice, so are her acrobatic finishes yet her “on the ball” pressure baseline to baseline can be smothering and when you factor in her quick hands to come away with steals, that’s huge. She also creates her shot under pressure and knocks it down from mid to long-range
Rodriguez has got to be one of the most fearless players I have ever seen and the punishment she has taken to only come back and be relevant while playing up over the years gives her my #ENERGIZER hashtag because she takes a lick and keeps on ticking, so #THROWBACK. She understands the game and her ability to handle the ball under pressure to score or dish will create problems as she gets older and stronger. Off the dribble as well as mid to long-range is ere, court vision in the set as well as in transition are also big pluses
