Top players competed as the sidelines were covered with college coaches from all over the country to scout talent. The following 17U standout players are from Texas teams, and beyond.
Hannah Doerre
Hannah Doerre
Doerre is a hustle player. She really understands the inside outside game. She was constantly moving without the ball. Flashing to the high post and creating contact or a threat in the short corner, she stretched the zone with her continuous movement. Doerre consistently squares up to the basket when she catches, and showed a nice mid range game. She helped out on the boards and did a lot of intangibles for her team. I’d classify her as a sleeper player, as she may be overlooked but will give quality production when on the court.
Caver is a strong stocky guard. She has a strong presence on the floor. Pressure defense did not phase her. She sees the floor really well, and is an x factor in breaking the full court press. She plays with a mature and developed understanding of the game. In the half court game, Caver is extremely patient but once she engages attack mode it is full throttle. With a quick first step, she can blow by you but she also has a beautiful three point shot. She shoots and makes the three with ease.
A solid 6’1 build, Stanley draws a lot of attention inside, and she has the strength to hold her own and bang in the paint. She did a great job of boxing out on every possession. She consistently shoots and connects on an effortless elbow jumper. In the full court press, she is AMAZING as the back person in a zone press. Very vocal, making reads that lead to deflections or steals. Most importantly, if the opposing team was able to break the press and get in the paint she does not give up an easy basket.
Nyamach Mathot
Nyamach Mathot
Raw athleticism. Mathot is relentless on the glass and extremely physical. She may not secure ever rebound but she is in the hunt getting touches on the ball. She guarded bigger opponents all game and made them work as she takes pride in her defense. Mathot did a good job of not fouling opponents that outsized her. She likes to shoot a back to the basket fadeaway.
Mylee Anderson
Mylee Anderson
Anderson is a point guard with great awareness of everyone on the court. Consistently facing pressure defense, she gracefully brings the ball of the court and “sets the table” for her team. She is constantly talking on both sides of the floor, reassuring her teammates. I watched her pivot out of traffic to get to the hoop and use crafty moves to finish at the basket.
