Teams from Alaska to New York traveled to the event to showcase a high level of competitive play. My fellow PGH Texas scout, Simmie Colson, told me I would get to see a different caliber of talent and he was absolutely correct!
Angelina Davorija
Angelina Davorija
This player is tough in transition. In the first two possessions after the tip off, she scored or assisted a layup in transition. The track meet pace of the game was set early and Davorija thrives in this tempo. In the half court set, she has a high IQ around the rim. She made several reverse pivots to turn away from the defense and find an open shot.
Kathryn Donovan
Kathryn Donovan
Donovan is a lockdown defender! I saw her give elite guards trouble getting the ball of the floor. Her pressure defense forced them into corners or even the last case scenario of calling a timeout. She is also a rebounding guard.
6’3 two way player. Her height inside consistently draws 2-3 defenders. Opponents first line of defense against her is to sandwich (squeeze) Hall. She is still polishing her counter to double but she is strong enough to find some space to pivot away and kick the ball out to a teammate. Often times, she was able to make a move, draw contact and get to the free throw line. On the other end of the floor, Hall is a nightmare in the lane for opponents. If you come into the lane, she has the ability to squat your shot. Outside of the paint, she has the lateral quickness to get down and guard.
Torrence is an elite defender. Her speed paired with length allow her to not only be a lockdown on ball defender, but lunge in the passing lanes like a hawk and grab steals to speed down the other end of the floor. Torrence is most impressive when she is playing off ball defense, anticipates being in help side and gets over just in time to block the ball without fouling. Again, showcasing her speed, she is very responsive in the full court press. Torrence is still working on finishing at the basket over multiple defenders, but it is only at a matter of time before the offense begins to click for her just as her defense has.
DeVillasee has an innate ability to play point guard. After my first take seeing her, it was no surprise to find out she is the number one ranked junior in Maryland.rnShe has the ability to make all of her teammates on the floor better. She broke down multiple defenders in one possession with a MEAN crossover to get to the cup and finish. More often than score, I saw her dish the ball out to teammates before they even knew they were open. High level player!
