This weekend I was in charge of covering all age levels at our Centre Of Elgin location for our PGH Midwest Extravaganza Event. Over these past few days I've seen all different types of prospects and athletes out on the floor. In this article I highlight my personal Top Five Of The Weekend. These five players demonstrated that it means to be a winner every time they took the court, showing out in one big way or another this weekend.

[player_tooltip player_id='514946' first='Shania' last='James'] has the nickname, “The One”, and after watching her this weekend, I understand why. James may only be a prospect out of the 2027 Class but she has the highest ceiling out of any player I saw compete this weekend. James is a crafty guard, that can score the ball at an insane rate. She is quick, relentless in her pursuit of the basketball, and she is very, very skilled. On one occasion this weekend, I saw her hit a three pointer to tie a game against a very good EYBL team, which they would eventually go on to win. I then saw her hit an AND-1 three pointer to start things off for their second game of the day and we aren't evening mentioning all the ways she can get to the basket off the dribble. [program_tooltip program_id='712375' first='All' last='in'] all, [player_tooltip player_id='514946' first='Shania' last='James'] is The One and she showed that at this event.

NWI Select 2025 has some ballers and one of their best comes to us in the form of Point Guard, Torri Chabes. Chabes is your ideal fast moving, quick thinking guard. She is very good at beating her opponent off the dribble on the offensive side of things, while being a stout defender. She understands when she should pass it compared to facilitate for others and she is very good at knocking down free throws once she gets fouled on her drives. I had the chance to see a lot of good PG's this weekend and Chabes is in the conversation for one of the best. The way she leads her team by example out on the floor was second to none these past couple of days.

I briefly highlighted [player_tooltip player_id='758055' first='Emily' last='Naraky'] prior to this weekend as being someone to watch out for and she followed that up by putting together an impressive couple of days. For example, in her two games on Saturday she was 1 Rebound away from a Triple-Double during their first contest, then she hit the go ahead three pointer with 2 seconds left in her second contest. Narkay maybe a 2027 but she is playing the best basketball of a her life right now. If she continues to ride this momentum, she is going to have several collegiate recruiters knocking at her door in the near future. She is 6'1, athletic, and very skilled. A combination you don't see too often at her age level so when you do, you know it's impressive.

[player_tooltip player_id='901862' first='MJ' last='Howard'] is a competitor. You can tell by watching her compete for five minutes on the hardwood. Howard is a PG with a simple play-style and this weekend she thrived because of that. She demonstrated the past couple of days that she understands the game of basketball to a T. She was communicating at a high level, she was spacing the floor once she passed the rock, she was being selfish when the opportunities presented themselves on offense, and she was an impressive passer in both the half & full courts with her elite vision. This weekend this was the ideal prospect that you would hate to compete against but you would love it if she were on your team. She is scrappy, she plays hard, and she impacts a game on both ends of the floor. As a coach, you can't ask for much more than that.

One of the best prospects that I saw competing this weekend at the Forward position was [player_tooltip player_id='686893' first='Cassidy' last='Danburg'] of the [program_tooltip program_id='714272' first='Iowa' last='Battlers'] 16U S40 team. Danburg is a 6'2 Post with balance, coordination, a soft touch, and a smart head on her shoulders. At this event, Danburg was a rebounding machine. On Friday night in her teams victory against Example Academy 2026 GUAA she had 16 rebound, along with a handful of other positive stats to stuff the stat sheet with. On Saturday, her team was back at it and they may have fallen to Midwest Meanstreets 2026 EYBL but Danburg killed it once again, making her mark in the rebounding department on both ends. Looking toward the future, Danburg is going to be a household name in Iowa High School Basketball if she keeps this production up. She is a force to deal with in the paint and that was on full display this weekend.
