Section 7, the top scholastic exposure event in the county, took place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on June 14 and 15. Over 1000 players and close to 100 teams were displayed for college coaches of all levels. This event was an opportunity for prospects to catch the eyes of these coaches and raise the interest of them to colleges.

Here, I look at some of the better newcomers that I saw:

[player_tooltip player_id='797310' first='Cherri' last='Hatter'] Desert Vista

The legend of Cherri continues to grow as she put on a show with her overall skill set. On offense, she scored with various pull-ups, step backs, and straight-to-the-rim attacks. Her defense will surprise some as she has very active hands and is very good at timing ball handlers. She got multiple steals from poking the ball out from behind.

[player_tooltip player_id='591482' first='Destinee' last='Benway'] Hamilton

Benway showed good ball handling and passing skills, whether in a half court set or on the break. She showed the ability to pass with either hand effectively. Her shooting is as smooth as there is in the class, and she shoots it with deep range. The form on her shot is so good you're almost surprised when it doesn't go in.

[player_tooltip player_id='797311' first='Mariah' last='Brownlee'] Millennium

There was so much to like about Brownlee from her feel for the game to her passing. She carefully picked her spots when to be aggressive on offense. She sees passes ahead before her teammates are open. She understands help defense and got steals on the ball and on the weak side.

[player_tooltip player_id='797283' first='Peyton' last='Jacobsen'] Highland

Jacobsen is a bigger wing who used her body very well against defenders. She displayed a good-looking jump shot out to the three-point line. She shot the ball with confidence and picked her spots very well. On defense, she was engaged and wasn't afraid to be physical with opponents.

[player_tooltip player_id='790615' first='Kaliha' last='Norwood'] McClintock

Norwood played with big confidence, and if you didn't know her, you wouldn't know that she was an incoming freshman. She attacked opponents in the paint and was not afraid to throw her body around inside. She was very good at initiating contact when she got past her initial defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='892657' first='Tessa' last='Rhude'] Notre Dame Prep

Rhude showed flashes of her immense potential. At close to 6'3, she is already comfortable operating on the perimeter. She confidently shot it from the perimeter and rebounded well on the defensive end. She also wasn't afraid to go bang in the paint with the post players.

[player_tooltip player_id='755356' first='Elleigh' last='Molinar'] Perry

The tough point guard, played with composure well beyond her years. She handled the ball pressure very well and made some very nice passes. She shot it well, especially from the three-point line. She showed she is ready to play a valuable role for the Pumas next season.

[player_tooltip player_id='926478' first='Mia' last='Davis'] Sandra Day O'Connor

Davis fit right in with an O'Connor team that returns several players from last year's championship team. On offense, she was constantly trying to make plays. She moved well without the ball setting screens and making the extra pass. On defense, she always stayed long and continued to be disruptive.
