7 Considerable Names To Know Ahead Of The HS Season

The beginning of August has just kicked off and what better time to talk about high school hoops than now? Alot of athletes are getting their short rest before summer preseason work, but forecasting the highly anticipated basketball season is inevitable coming off this collective summer of basketball. This summer New England has stepped up in a major way and there's never been a better time to be a fan. These are a good few of names that some are familiar with and others will be soon. This is a log of 7 names to be aware of going into the season.    [player_tooltip player_id='928993' first='Kiyla' last='Fowler'] (2026) | 5'6 PG | St. Andrew's   Kiyla is the daughter of a longtime coach with over 20 years of experience. She'll be bringing a certain level of poise and IQ to St. Andrew's this year. Fowler will fit in seamlessly into the Saints' distinguished lineup due to her intricate skillset. The 5'6 point is a pass-first player that can also knock down the 3 consistently and keep turnovers to a minimum. Fowler is an avid defender too. She plays with a tireless effort that can wear down offensive players throughout the course of the game. St. Andrew's has been an intriguing team to watch over the year and with the addition of Kiyla the team is even more dangerous.     Lily Davis (2028) | 5'6 PG | Tabor   LIly Davis is coming into the season with a heap of momentum after recently attending Coach Batth's camp at Providence College and receiving an offer. Davis will be coming into the season as one of the most high-powered guards in her class after asserting herself through the entire AAU season. Lily works well in various situations on the floor due to how eager she is to pounce on attacking opportunities on the offensive side. There's not too much from the point guard position Davis can't provide. The shifty point offers the intangibles and a highly spirited game that rubs off on her teammates. Lily uses her athleticism to her advantage on the defensive side too. She keeps her arms in the passing lanes so she can get out in transition after deflecting passes that come across her field of vision. Lily Davis is a requisite name to know this season and a fun watch on a talented Tabor team.     [player_tooltip player_id='968013' first='Jacylah' last='Goode'] (2027) | 6'0 Wing | Green Farms Academy   Jacylah "LaLa" Goode is a premier 6'0 wing scorer. Her domineering efforts truly make her one of the most potent offensive skilled players on the East Coast. Goode is a lefty shooter that sports one of the purest jump shooting forms. She gets elevation on every shot, but also maintains a quick release that stays consistent. Goode can put the ball on the floor with her finesse skillset, but she also has the ability to stop on a dime to pull up for a jumper. The long wing makes it look easy when she puts the ball on the floor after getting a defender to bite from her killer up fake. A couple dribbles can get her to the basket and she finishes well with tough angles. Goode received an offer from Providence College this week after a stellar summer of hoops. Expect her to come into the season for Green Farms Academy rolling. It's hard to not to pay attention to an impressive talent such as Goode's.     [player_tooltip player_id='481357' first='Bella' last='Owumi'] (2027) | 5'9 Wing | St, Mary's   Bella has had a shining trajectory for a couple of years now. The rising sophomore has played varsity since 7th grade. Bella has a well-rounded and fiery game. She can excel at various positions, regardless of the scenario. Owumi has figured out how to play well in different situations due to her effective skillset that starts with a deadly jumper and coldblooded driving attacks. Owumi also seems to get to the line at her will with her scoring efforts. Bella put up an imposing stat line of 14ppg, 10 reb and over 4 steals a game as freshman last year. It's hard having motivation after winning 2 state titles already, but Owumi remains hungry. Expect her to come back vigorously this year with great improvements on those numbers this season as a sophomore. She is one of the best talents from the North Shore.     [player_tooltip player_id='975765' first='Zareia' last='Colome'] (2028) | CG | Unknown   Zareia has been picking up steam for a while now. Previously playing with some local RI squads, Colome has improved her game so much that she plays on a national schedule for IBelieve now. Colome is a playmaking guard that shows flashes of having insurmountable talent when she gets going. She has a smooth game that can lull a defender to sleep, but still has the fiery playmaking skills that would make anyone scratch their head. Zareia has an excellent isolation game and then when she gains the attention of the defense, she shows elite ability to make plays for her teammates around her. If Colome can make some minor improvements throughout the season and tweak the athleticism, she may become one of the top prospects in all of RI from her class.     [player_tooltip player_id='340828' first='Gracyn' last='Barnes'] (2027) | Wing | Worcester Academy   Gracyn is one of the more solid stars from her class. Barnes works well with others and can play effectively with or without the ball in her hands. She has valid ballhandling skills that are tailored towards efficiency rather than flashiness, although she does have a lethal step back move that she uses quite often. Barnes keeps it simple, but gets the job done for the most part. She's exceptional at using screens and even runs off the re-screen if 221the first didn't create enough action. After snaking or even splitting a screen, Barnes penetrates to a level that forces defenders to step up and she's able to find open teammates in their spots. On defense, Gracyn is that frisky defender that disrupts ball handlers at the point of attack. Overall, Barnes is a tremendous talent that will have an improved upon season where she will be spotlighted this year,     Gyselle was the one of the most underrated overwhelming talents in Rhode Island last year. As a freshman she averaged over 13 ppg, about 2 steals per game and 4 rebs per game. She was also one of the state's leaders in charges taken. Mairs was a lot to handle coming in with her dynamic handle and fast paced play. The star combo guard can score from 3 levels, but maintains more of a point guard sense with that being more of her natural position. On defense she provides a viable sense of support for someone who's such an offense threat. Mairs moves her feet well and stays in front of most guards. Next year Gyselle will have heavy college interest, if she hasn't already gathered some now. She'll be in a more prominent role, with one of the leaders of the team graduating and she will surely have some breakout nights for Portsmouth.
