September delivered a whirlwind of Sunday showcases courtesy of Prep Girls Hoops, but after three outstanding sessions the final Sunday of the month was dedicated to Breakdown's Premier Fall League at Minnetonka. The two-week mini league is a preview of sorts for the main four-week league that gets underway on Oct. 13. We missed week one due to the PGH Expo but week two offered the opportunity to see a half dozen quality teams including Maple Grove, St. Paul Como Park, St. Michael-Albertville, Delano, East Ridge, Blaine, and Mahtomedi. Here some of the top performers of the day with a few random observations tossed in for good measure.

Brielle is our FRESH FACE OF THE DAY, a talented guard who just moved into Minnesota from River Falls, Wisconsin. The East Ridge freshman isn't an unknown commodity given the success she has already had across the border. This summer Gray earned honorable mention status from PGH Wisconsin as Newcomer of the Year award as well as the 15U AAU All-Star Team. Brielle is explosive, with a quick first step, excellent athleticism, and a set of handles that is trending towards elite. She can shoot, distribute and defend at a high level. We were impressed with our first viewing on Sunday. We're about to name our Freshman 50, the first ranking of Minnesota's Class of 2028. Because Sunday's games at Fall League were the first time we've seen Brielle play, we've elected to leave her out of the mix until we have a better idea where she fits. Rest assured, however, that Gray will be on the list in the new year.

Katelyn is our SUNDAY STOCK RISER from Fall League. Thanks to a terrific summer with the [program_tooltip program_id='712689' first='Minnesota' last='Heat'], Wozniak has already earned her way into the PGH Top 200 for the Class of 2025. The way the senior played on Sunday, we can definitely see her moving up in short order. Katelyn has nice length, moves around the court with ease, and she's fast. In fact Wozniak was on the 4 x 400 relay team that won a high school state championship last year. She averaged 11 point per game last season. On Sunday she was everywhere, handling the ball, getting to the rim and leading by example.

Sarah is our RISING STAR OF THE DAY. If you've been following along all summer you are no doubt aware that the [program_tooltip program_id='712687' first='Minnesota' last='Fury'] freshman is a special talent who is bound to land near the north end of the list in the Freshman 50. She was everywhere on Sunday, running the point for the Zephyrs and making plays on every possession. Driving to the basket, Sarah has so many tools in her tool box with a variety of moves and finishes that make you say, ‘Wow!' on a regular basis. Her length is impressive. Her feel for the game even more so. Sarah is a Division 1 prospect all day long and on Sunday she showed why.

Anna is our UNSIGNED SENIOR TO SEE. Ranked among the Top 20 in the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2025, our opinion of her potential speaks for itself. College coaches still aren't sure what level Greene belongs at – I am frequently asked for my opinion on the matter – but every time we watch she seems to impact the game in a big way. Greene has size and skill, is extremely versatile, and is very good down low with her back to the basket – something that is quickly becoming a lost art. Defensively she can match up with much bigger players and come away on top. Greene also averaged 17 ppg as a junior. We're confident that Anna's workmanlike game is going to translate well at the next level. Anna's sister Ali had a nice college career at D1 Creighton. Time will tell if Anna gets an opportunity to do likewise.

RANDOM OBSERVATIONS

Watching St. Michael-Albertville on Sunday it's obvious that the Knights are destined to be one of Minnesota's top teams again this winter. South Dakota State signee [player_tooltip player_id='330743' first='Abby' last='Hoselton'] (ranked #7 among the 2025s) is a stalwart and 2026 top 5 [player_tooltip player_id='344333' first='Cail' last='Jahnke'] is a high-major prospect who has really come into her own. It's the two additions to the lineup that look to make a big impact: 2027 #8 [player_tooltip player_id='764943' first='Mariah' last='Sexton'] and 2028 standout [player_tooltip player_id='630242' first='Caelyn' last='Foster']. Sexton is a 6'3 post who transferred in over the summer from Wisconsin. Foster played some last season, but the lengthy 9th grader looks like she's going to be a world-beater very quickly.

Coming off a record-breaking campaign, Delano looks to be solid once again despite the graduations of Taylor Tool (Northern State) and Norah Danielson (Wayne State). We were super-impressed on Sunday by the play of two youngsters who will be relied upon in a big way: 2026 forward [player_tooltip player_id='589282' first='Cassie' last='Wegman'] and 2027 guard [player_tooltip player_id='866100' first='Addie' last='Iversen']. Both are top 40 prospects who appear ready to take their games to a new level. 2026 point guard [player_tooltip player_id='458302' first='Abbie' last='Pietila'] (ranked #17), who has committed to Michigan Tech, is back to run the show once again. And the supporting cast looks solid for our 2023-24 High School Coach of the Year Scott Antl.

St. Paul Como Park has a nice looking squad this season led by senior [player_tooltip player_id='921685' first='Makyia' last='Kenney'], who is coming off a breakout summer with [program_tooltip program_id='713420' first='Minnesota' last='Diamond Elite']. The Top 125 prospect is strong and physical and competes really hard. She is aggressive on the attack, isn't shy about making and taking contact, and can score and distribute at a high level. It's early in the fall season, but Makyia showed signs on Sunday that she's ready for a big senior year for coach Londa England's Cougars.
