Coming off a year of high school basketball, some players are ready to take the next step and get big minutes on varsity, while others will have to play a role and find ways to contribute when given the opportunity. Below are five sophomores who I believe will have a notable second season.

Brown put a ton of people on notice this summer, in both AAU play and the high school live period. She's built strong, plays a physical type of game, and has complete awareness of what's going on around her—especially from the elbow down. Her high school team has a ton of talent, and Jada will be a focal point within that. She has a tremendous amount of potential.

Waubonsie will be missing a key piece this year, but Pereda could be the perfect fit for that role. She brings a sense of athleticism and confidence that many players her age don't display on a consistent basis. She can stretch the court, get to the rim, and defend positions 1 through 3.

Domercant has seen a couple more D1 offers roll through in the past couple of months, which should give more clarity on how valuable she will be to Whitney Young this year. She's crafty, confident, and has the ability to play multiple roles. Last year, she was the spot-up shooter for the Dolphins, and this year she could see herself as a primary focal point for the team.

Silva has a solid baseline of skills and a sharp fundamental set. From all angles on the court, she's a threat, and she has the confidence to take and make big shots. Silva's key will be showing that same effectiveness when the competition against her increases. The potential is there.

Sigal was able to show her talent and ability as a freshman last season for Neuqua, and after another year of developing and sharpening her skills, she should be gearing up for another strong year. Relentless, active, and fearless are the three words that come to mind when I watch her play.

Prospect will be heading into the season without a couple of their key players, and Zoe has the potential to fill one of those roles. She's an active player with a keen sense of where she and her teammates need to be. She has a strong IQ, is aware, and possesses a high motor. Zoe could be in for a very solid sophomore season.
